'No pain, no gain' shouldn't be runners' training mantra, experts say
via vancouversun.comAs a training motto, it is as dated as a Jane Fonda aerobics video.
“No pain, no gain has been debunked, especially for runners,” said Jean-Francois Esculier, the vice-president and director of research and development with The Running Clinic. “Some of my patients think that running with pain is normal. It’s actually not normal to have pain when you run.”

Lynn Kanuka's coaching advice: Be weather wise and go with the flow
via vancouversun.comHello to everyone around the province!
When I was health screening with our Run/Walk team in beautiful Hazelton near Smithers, I had the privilege of chatting with a wonderful 85-year-old woman.
Her blood pressure, body strength, sugars and cholesterol readings were all in perfect health. She told me she’s always walked every day in her life, and now walks three times per week with 70 other dedicated elders in her village community.

Advocates demand government action on B.C. housing 'crisis'

The rally, organized by the newly-formed Affordability Action Hub, drew more than 100 people to Jack Poole Plaza where, in the shadow of luxury highrises, speaker after speaker decried skyrocketing housing costs in the region and its impact on locals and communities.

Opinion: Budget will reflect values of Horgan government
via vancouversun.comB.C. Finance Minister Carole James will set the tone for the New Democrat government when she delivers her first budget Tuesday. From my experience as a finance minister I know this day is likely to be one of her best and toughest days in office.

Opinion: Canadian citizenship should signify a commitment to Canada
via vancouversun.comOur MP sends out a regular newsletter, the main function of which seems to be demonstrating how many fine things she is doing for constituents. A recent issue contained a brief piece on citizenship and immigration, in which our MP referred to the Liberal government’s achievement in removing the “offensive requirement that, to become a citizen, a person must show they intend to live only in Canada.” As an immigrant to Canada who has been a citizen for more than 40 years, I find -
Opinion: Blocking a B.C. LNG plant could actually worsen climate change
via vancouversun.comDespite all the noise to the contrary, the fact is that building a liquified natural gas plant in B.C. could actually help slow climate change.
The reason is simple – climate change is a global issue. We all share the same air. If a plant is built here, B.C.’s comparatively clean natural gas could replace some of the dirty fuels currently being burned to produce electricity in China and other countries, resulting in a reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Letters: PM, minister undermined jury's duty and decision
via vancouversun.comI support the Saskatchewan jury after enduring racism following its decision to acquit Canadian farmer Gerald Stanley in the death of Colten Boushie, despite the pressure applied during pre-trial accusations of Stanley’s guilt. As the jury determined, we will never know if Boushie’s death was intentional. As a juror, it would have been difficult for me to condemn a man for acting to protect his person and property. Had Boushie not been on Stanley’s property, he would have saved -
