Daily Poll: Who's to blame for ICBC's $1.3-billion operating loss?
via vancouversun.comEven before an official announcement is made, the finger pointing has begun.
ICBC is expected to take a $1.3-billion operating loss in the current fiscal year ending March 1. It’s a result of increasing number of crashes, a surge in claims and ballooning costs of claims.
And the loss could soon be pinned on ICBC customers in the form of a premiums hike.

The Thread That Keeps Us | ANTI Records
Long beloved of roots music fans, Tucson’s Calexico has always straddled the more outside aspects of its desert-bred psychedelia with pretty straight on fondness for sixties California hippy pop. Particularly the sound of the band Love, whose songs they’ve covered and who were also prone to include elements of mariachi horns and twang in its sound. For album number nine, it appears that Calexico stepped past that and set up camp in th -

Opinion: Time to make a decision on Mayors' Council transportation plan is now

Opinion: Status quo a non-starter in B.C.'s forest industry
via vancouversun.comDoug Donaldson understands better than most how neglected B.C.’s forests are, and how that neglect is mirrored in troubling job losses and missed employment opportunities in rural towns and First Nations communities.
As B.C.’s forests minister, he is also the MLA for the vast Stikine riding where Highway 37 is a gateway to old-growth forests that have been logged for decades with one goal in mind: to strip them of their trees and send virtually every log out of the province, in raw, -
Opinion: National shipbuilding strategy is hobbling our Atlantic and Pacific fleets
via vancouversun.comCanada has got some real problems.
In 2014, Canada lost its last two refuelling supply ships, the HMCS Protecteur by fire and the HMCS Preserver as a result of corrosion. Consequently, for the last three years the navy has been unable to effectively deploy a task force and its ability to protect our shores has been limited. This loss reduces mission options, curtails the radius of action for the navy’s warships and erodes skills.
Without resupply and refuelling capabilities, the navy is un -

Writing Alzheimer's play helped victim's wife deal with cruel illness
via vancouversun.comVICTORIA — Jill Daum says writing a play about a family’s struggles with Alzheimer’s helped her get out of bed some days as she fought to accept her husband’s diagnosis of the cruel disease.

Sports medicine experts MOVE on with evidence-based advice
via vancouversun.comIs prolonged rest best for an acute injury or musculoskeletal problem? No, it’s actually harmful. Steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for banged-up ligaments or muscles? Not so much. How about ice? Maybe for a short time, but rigorous research on benefits is tepid, so it’s controversial.
The old advice to be idle is being put to rest. Now, experts say, the key to recovery is joint and muscle stimulation. And new research is driving this approach. A British S -

Dan Fumano: With big changes coming to city hall, candidates talk collaboration
via vancouversun.comThe October municipal election is near enough that parties and potential candidates are busy strategizing, but far enough out that many questions are being answered with “it’s not out of the question” or “anything could happen.”
