  Vancouver recorded more homicides in 2017 than recent years, while Surrey reported fewer than its 10-year average.
  As of Friday, the City of Vancouver had registered 19 homicides in 2017, said Vancouver Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Robillard.

  Friday’s hairy weather has wreaked havoc in the Fraser Valley, leaving many without power.
  Saturday morning, BC Hydro reports more than 27,000 customers between Langley and Hope are still without power after freezing rain, snow and ice caused damage to the region’s electrical infrastructure. (At one point on Friday, that total was more than 100,000.)BC Hydro says they’re making “steady progress” and have called crews in from around the province to assist.

  British Columbians will ring in 2018 with a big cut in Medical Services Plan premiums, which will help offset the sting of rising ICBC rates, the provincial carbon tax increase and higher property taxes.
