The union representing professional actors in B.C. is looking to improve protections for young performers from sexual harassment.
A task force is exploring how to improve safety and reduce barriers to reporting for vulnerable young actors, Sue Brouse, the union’s director of member services and human resources, said Friday.

Douglas Todd: A defence of coalition governments – in B.C. and beyond
via vancouversun.comToo bad those competing to head B.C.’s Liberal party can’t take full rhetorical advantage of the alleged crisis this week in Germany’s coalition government.
The would-be Liberal leaders seem dead-set against British Columbians voting one year from now, in November 2018, for a new way of electing a government, which could include proportional representation.
North American foes of proportional representation often argue it will lead to more minority and coalition governments &md -

This Week in History: 1927 A 'Modified Spanish Renaissance' theatre opens on Granville Street
via vancouversun.comOn Friday night, the City of Vancouver celebrated the 90th birthday of the Orpheum Theatre with an event hosted by Bill Richardson and Bramwell Tovey. So we dug into the files to see how the papers covered it in the past.
The Orpheum was the last in a wave of movie-vaudeville palaces that were built in Vancouver between 1917 and 1927, beginning with the Pantages (1917), Allen (1920) and Capitol (1921).
It was the fourth theatre to bear the Orpheum name in the city. The first Orpheum opened in 19 -
Throwing a holiday do? Knock ’em out with a killer punch
via vancouversun.comIf you’re wondering how to get your party started, it’s quite simple: Serve a bowl of punch.
Now, we’re not talking sickly sweet kid stuff; nor would we consider the jet fuel you might remember from your college days. A proper punch is elegant and balanced, a sophisticated sipper, a hassle-free godsend for a harried host, and one of the great classic libations.
“I think the best thing about it is it was a drink designed for sharing,” says Grant Sceney, the creative -
Salut: Welcome family and friends for the holidays with deliciously shareable dips
via vancouversun.comI don’t know about you, but after a year that seemed to wind its way endlessly through one depressing news story after another, all I want this holiday season is a little bit of comfort.
I want to curl up by the fire, wrapped in a cosy blanket, the phone switched off, friends and family all around, sharing the foods that bring us comfort and, yes, joy.
This is not the year for a formal affair with fiddly canapés and fussy ingredients. This is a year for simple pleasures that we can -

via vancouversun.comGreat food and drinks are an essential element of any dinner party.
But, if you’re looking to ensure your holiday fete is a step above the rest, you’re going to want to put a bit of extra effort into the table setting. Because, no one wants a #basic holiday dinner, after all.
“You want to add some unexpected theatrical elements to the table,” Stephen Michlits, trend and design direction lead with the Home Collection at Real Canadia -
