Any action that you believe helps others is beneficial
via vancouversun.comTaking action to help the environment enhances your feeling of well-being and if that action is difficult or expensive, you might feel even better, according to a study by Simon Fraser University.
The connection between helping the environment and emotional reward is more complicated than helping a friend or neighbour, according to co-author Michael Schmidt.
The effects of assisting your elderly neighbour with his shopping are immediate and you feel the gratitude. Green behaviour is more co -

Vancouver most unaffordable real estate market in Canada, U.S.: Report
via vancouversun.comUnsurprisingly, a new study of the 50 most populous cities in North America has found that Vancouver has the most unaffordable housing market.
The study, released by Point2 Homes on Monday, describes Vancouver’s “insane affordability gap” and points out that its unaffordability exceeds that of Manhattan and San Francisco.
The study relies on a measurement called the median multiple for its conclusions, which compares median house prices to median household incomes to come up wi -

Opinion: B.C. needs a full public inquiry into fracking
via vancouversun.comLast year, more natural gas was produced in British Columbia than at any point in the past decade.
That may come as a surprise to some people who thought that growth in B.C.’s natural gas industry hinged on the emergence of a liquefied natural gas sector. It does not.
The reality is that even without a much-hyped LNG industry, natural gas production in B.C. jumped 70 per cent over the past decade, with major customers — including Alberta’s oilsands industry — fuelling tha -

More than two dozen groups join call for fracking inquiry in B.C.

Opinion: Can Vancouver achieve 100-per-cent renewable energy?
via vancouversun.comTwo years ago, Vancouver city council approved a strategy to move the community off fossil fuels by 2050.
For some, and given our current reliance on petroleum and natural gas, the city’s goal represents the unattainable. But none among those who study the issue contests the idea that the city can be powered and fuelled solely from renewable energy.

It’s an opening that members of the famously activist and fractious party have made -
