Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside changes with development
via vancouversun.comVANCOUVER — Fraser Stuart looks at a chic, new tattoo shop metres away from the heart of Vancouver’s notorious Downtown Eastside and shakes his head.
A man saunters by mumbling “Drugs?” and flashes plastic bags in the palm of each hand.
Inside, a young man in tight jeans and a toque chats with a tattoo artist, a bear’s head hangs from the wall.
“Ridiculous,” says Stuart, a longtime resident and activist in the neighbourhood.

via vancouversun.comWhen my son started middle school last month, he brought home a slew of consent forms for this that and the other. Most weren’t problematic, but one was deeply troubling to me — the consent form for the Google Education App.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the form explained that the Google Education App requires the collection of personal information — student name, school name and grade level, as well as content created by the user -
Opinion: At $3.4 million per job, Site C isn’t worth the cost
via vancouversun.comThroughout the province, B.C. Hydro ratepayers have packed the halls of the B.C. Utilities Commission (BCUC) review of the Site C dam — and have been overwhelmingly opposed to the project.
Participants voiced many reasons that the dam should be scrapped: it’s incompatible with the B.C. government’s commitment to uphold the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; it will flood prime agricultural land and sacred sites; there is no demand for the power it will create; -
