JAKARTA, Indonesia — When Canadians think about the Islamic world, they tend to focus on quasi-dictatorships in the Middle East, like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran.
But the world’s most populous Muslim nation is actually Indonesia.
This equatorial Southeast Asian country is home to 260 million people, 87 per cent of whom are Sunni Muslims.

Father's fears deepen over missing Okanagan teen; digging continues

“It could mean nothing, but it could also mean quite a bit,” Traci’s emotional dad, Darcy Genereaux, said Thursday.

High-risk sex offender goes missing again in Vancouver
via vancouversun.comFor the second time this year, a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for convicted sex offender Christopher Schafer for failing to return to his Vancouver halfway house.
Being the subject of Canada-wide warrants is a regular occurrence for Schafer. On July 18, he was arrested by Vancouver police, five days after failing to return to his residential correctional facility. The federal offender also prompted Canada-wide warrants in 2016, 2013 and 2010 for walking away from his halfway house.

Feedback so far includes recommendations from Port Coquitlam and View Royal, on Vancouver Island, for pot profits to be directed to municipalities to address costs associated with enforcement -

via vancouversun.comOSOYOOS — The federal and B.C. governments as well as members of the Okanagan Nation have agreed to resume work to establish a new national park reserve in the south Okanagan.
Plans for the park have been under discussion for almost 15 years but little has been done since 2012 when members of the Osoyoos and Lower Similkameen bands completed a feasibility study and issued a final report.

via vancouversun.comGordon Smith: The Black Paintings
Until Feb. 4, 2018 | Vancouver Art Gallery
More info: vanartgallery.bc.ca
Gordon Smith’s black paintings are, not surprisingly, predominantly black. But for Smith, black isn’t necessarily about dark and destructive emotions.
Many of his black paintings are associated with the years he spent in the Second World War as an intelligence officer drawing maps from photographs. As a result, the black in his black paintings came to be seen as evoking feeling -

Bulls & Bears: Baseball isn't making inroads with younger fans

It isn’t the classic Big Enchilada of television ratings that would have been produced by a showdown between the two biggest North American media markets, and two of the most storied franchises in the history of sport, — the Big Apple’s New York Yankees and Hollywood’s Los Angeles Dodgers — but the 2017 World Series between L.A. and Houston is certainly holding its own for FOX Sports south of the border.

Opinion: Innovation isn't a magic bullet, it requires a work plan
via vancouversun.comIt’s always tempting, when you’re wrestling with a problem, to seek a single solution — like a software patch that will update your phone or restore your computer. Yet, the global economy is no simple organism. And innovation is no magic patch. Rather, it’s a process of discovery, invention, engagement and application that demands multiple solutions to achieve optimal results.
I raise the matter as a caution — and encouragement — in anticipation of two confere -
