A lawyer for a young man who was convicted in the swarming death of a teen in Whistler says his client should receive a four-year jail sentence.
Matthew Nathanson made the submission in court Thursday on behalf of Arvin Golic, 20, who was convicted of the May 2015 manslaughter of Luka Gordic, 19. He said the four-year sentence would be reduced by the amount of credit his client receives for pre-sentence custody.

Pilot makes safe highway landing in B.C., but take off proved more difficult
via vancouversun.comPRINCE GEORGE — A pilot who caused an unusual traffic hazard in northern British Columbia after safely making an emergency landing on a highway initially had some trouble getting the plane airborne again.
RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says the pilot of the single-engine Cessna 172 made the emergency landing Wednesday on Highway 97 about 50 kilometres north of Prince George.

Smoke in passenger area causes delays on SeaBus
via vancouversun.comSeaBus commuters experienced delays early Thursday, after smoke filled up the passenger area on the 7:30 a.m. sailing.
TransLink says they pulled the boat out of service and are running the backup ferry, while they investigate the problem.
TransLink confirmed there was no fire, and said the smoke was caused by grease on a coupling. TransLink also says were no injuries from smoke inhalation.
The SeaBus was delayed by two sailings while crews worked to get the backup ferry in service.

Crews battle large house fire in Surrey
via vancouversun.comOne man is in serious condition after a house fire in Surrey late Wednesday night.
Surrey assistant fire chief Jason Cairney said the blaze broke out in the back of the house shortly before midnight near 116 Avenue and 140 Street.
When firefighters arrived they were told that one man was still in the residence.
Crews worked to put out the fire, while another firefighter went into the burning house where they found the man on the upper floor.
