Thinking in stories, the intersectional art of Angie Abdou
via vancouversun.comIn Case I Go
Angie Abdou
Arsenal Pulp PressAngie Abdou has done it again. After the searing social realism of her masterpiece Between, reviewed in 2014, she has turned her considerable talents not to a simple and perhaps tempting reprise of the genre and approach that produced her last triumph but to a new and risky effort: an odd blend of ghost story, adultery drama, anti-racist consciousness raising, and magical realism.
In Case I Go not only features a child narrator, à la Emma Donohue -
Research puts B.C. Children's at forefront of 'precision medicine'
via vancouversun.comFor Celia Lau, the value of the research at B.C. Children’s Hospital is not hard to measure. She sees it every day in the face of her vibrantly healthy 10-year-old son, Justin.
Without a personalized genetic treatment developed at the hospital’s research institute, Justin may not have survived his illness.
Lau gave birth to her first child, Cameron, in 2004. Cameron was a full-term, six pound, 11 ounce baby who appeared healthy and perfect in every way. But shortly after going home, -
