A collision closed the Coquihalla Highway to northbound traffic for several hours on Saturday afternoon.
Beginning about 11:40 a.m., traffic was being turned around at the Othello Road interchange, with drivers headed to the Interior being told to detour and take Highway 1 or Highway 3.
The road was re-opened about 2 p.m. Drivers were told to expect delays while congestion cleared.
Southbound lanes were briefly closed as well.

'It felt like everyone around was shot': Vegas horror haunts Victoria mom and daughter
via vancouversun.comWhen Saanich’s Brie Jacobson finally managed to take a shower and wash her hair on Wednesday morning, the water running off her body turned red.
“I realized there was all this dried up blood in my hair. I was covered in other people’s blood,” she said.
Last Sunday night in Las Vegas, she had been in the crowd of about 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, running for her life as a gunman sprayed the crowd with bullets.
Her mother, Tracy Jacobson, was also -

REAL SCOOP: British Columbian ISIS supporter will stay in jail for now
via vancouversun.comOthman Hamdan was acquitted of all criminal charges by a B.C. Supreme Court judge two weeks ago. But the supporter of the Islamic State was ordered this week to be held in jail until a full hearing on his admissibility to stay in Canada is held.
Immigration board member Trent Cook agreed with the Canada Border Services Agency that Hamdan would be a danger to the public if released. I will continue to follow this case.
We just had a Canadian ISIS supporter plead guilty of plotting an attack in th -

REAL SCOOP: 3 young men convicted in 2015 Whistler killing
via vancouversun.comIt was every parent’s worst nightmare. Your child goes away for the weekend with friends and ends up dead. As the mother of Luka Gordic said Friday after three youth were convicted in her son’s murder, it was all over nothing. It was nonsense.
I was in court for the very lengthy ruling yesterday convicted three young men in Gordic’s fatal stabbing. It was an emotional day.
Here’s my story:
Three youths found guilty in 2015 Luka Gordic killing

Police give no new information on double slaying in quiet Vancouver neighbourhood
via vancouversun.comThe only indication anything was out of the ordinary on the 1200-block of West 64th Ave. in Vancouver was six bouquets and a card left outside a modest blue bungalow in the middle of the block.
That home was the scene of a double murder 11 days ago that has homicide investigators warning the killings may be random.
Dianna Mah-Jones, 65, and Richard Jones, 68, were found dead in their home on Sept. 27 after police were called to check on their well-being.
On Friday morning, a mail carrier m -
Second + Main prioritizes access and community living
via vancouversun.comIn a city like Vancouver, where space is at a premium and highrise apartment living is the norm for many, it can sometimes be hard to find a multi-family project where residents are truly able to feel a part of the community in which they live. In this context, Second + Main is an exception.
In addition to the 233 homes on offer, this low-rise, mixed-use building incorporates commercial retail space on the ground floor and a plan by the City of Vancouver to develop below-market housing and an ar -

The Home Front: Spotlight on LA design
via vancouversun.comOne of the best things about attending IDS (Interior Design Show) Vancouver — “the Pacific platform for all things design” — is the chance to view outstanding design from other cities and countries, without having to leave home.
A great example of this at the event, held last week for its 13th year, was the INTRO/LA exhibition. The vignette version of the annual LA design show, founded and curated by Paul Valentine of design consultancy Small Office, features th -
Minter: Winter protection for tender plants
via vancouversun.comLast winter, far too many tender outdoor plants, and even ones that normally survive the cold, were lost. Some traditionally hardy container plants ended their careers because of the long, extreme cold. So, what happened and why?
We enjoyed two mild winters in 2014 and 2015, thanks to the “El Nino” ocean currents off the West Coast. “La Nina” turned things around last year, and we experienced one of our coldest winters in some time. The milder winters made us too complace -
Organized crime a 'viable threat to public safety' in B.C. casinos: 2017 gov't report
via vancouversun.comThe presence of organized criminals in casinos is “a viable threat to public safety,” the B.C. government was warned in an April internal memo obtained by Postmedia.
The memo — sent to John Mazure, B.C.’s assistant deputy minister in charge of the gaming enforcement branch — sheds light on the level of awareness in the government of how money laundering in casinos could pose a danger for both B.C. residents and the provincial economy.
The high-level warning and othe -
Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra and the amazing archives of Vancouver's Hugh Pickett
via vancouversun.comWhen Bob Dylan came to Vancouver on March 26, 1966, his keyboard player Garth Hudson needed a Hammond organ. So promoter Hugh Pickett rented one from Eaton’s for $100.
How do we know? Because Pickett kept an invoice in a Bob Dylan file, which he had stashed away for decades in the basement of his home in Kerrisdale.
Pickett passed away on Feb. 13, 2006, but it took his companion Gordon Boyd almost a decade to sort through all his stuff.

Man in hospital after stabbing in Surrey's Clayton Heights neighbourhood
via vancouversun.comPolice are investigating a stabbing in Surrey Friday evening that sent one man to hospital.
Surrey RCMP were called to the 18700-block of 64th Avenue, in the Clayton Heights area, just before 8 p.m.
Officers found one male victim who had been stabbed. He was being treated in hospital but the extent of his injuries wasn’t immediately known.
Police were canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses, and said traffic might be disrupted for several more hours.

Opinion: Time to question outside influence on Canada's oil debate
via vancouversun.comWith the kids back at school, for Canadian households the fall season brings a few things back into sharp focus. We all have bills to pay, careers to foster, aging parents and extended family (sometimes on the other side of the world) to support.
And now there’s one more thing to add to the list of serious concerns. Canada’s future independence and success as a nation is facing some big challenges. We’re all familiar with the trials and tribulations of globalization. Love it or -
Opinion: Providing seniors customer service, can we do better?
via vancouversun.comThe results from a recent customer-service survey conducted by the B.C. Office of the Seniors Advocate speak for themselves. Fifty per cent of seniors rated the overall quality of their care home as very good or excellent. This means that the other 50 per cent were unhappy. Is this a sustainable business model, when half of the customers are dissatisfied? What would Starbucks, Apple, McDonald’s, Amazon or Air Canada do if their customer base was cut in half? The sad reality is that seniors -
Editorial: Get tougher on money laundering through casinos
via vancouversun.comWe would like to think that casinos simply provide entertainment as portrayed in the ads showing people dancing, dining, going to shows and playing roulette, offering a great night out.
But, as Postmedia reporter Sam Cooper has revealed in his investigative series over the past week, there is a dark side to the fun and games.
Through freedom of information requests, document searches and interviews with dozens of people following a trail of money around the globe, Cooper has shown how the -
Three youths found guilty in 2015 Luka Gordic killing
via vancouversun.comThree young men charged in the fatal attack on teen Luka Gordic in Whistler two years ago were convicted Friday in B.C. Supreme Court.
Justice Terence Schultes said the evidence proved beyond a reasonable doubt the charges against the trio — one facing a second-degree murder count and the other two charged with manslaughter.
All three were 17 at the time of the May 17, 2015, swarming attack and stabbing, so their names cannot be published.
All three had blood from the victim on t -
Vaughn Palmer: Stone enters leadership race reminded of toll promises
via vancouversun.comVICTORIA — Former cabinet minister Todd Stone is poised to become the eighth declared candidate for the B.C. Liberal leadership Tuesday, having booked a venue in Surrey as the launch point for his bid.

Geographically speaking, there’s more to the choice than in-your-face Dianne. Stone will make -
Letters: Immigration policy fuels unsustainable demands
via vancouversun.comRe: Cut immigration to ease demand on housing, Opinion, Oct. 3
Proponents of raising our annual immigration intake, in the name of achieving critical mass, cite such population expansion to be indispensable to urban growth, when in reality runaway urban growth, fuelled by a policy of mass immigration, is becoming a victim of a self-defeating inflationary cycle of unaffordable housing costs and increasingly exorbitant and economically unsustainable infrastructure demands.
