The Birds to be plucked from Olympic Village for repairs
via vancouversun.comThe popular public art work known as The Birds will soon be plucked from Olympic Village for repairs.
Since the giant male and female sparrows were installed just after the 2010 Winter Olympics, the shells have become significantly damaged, especially on the male bird. They are both used as ramps by skateboarders and bicycle riders, and people regularly climb over the two structures, which are 4.5 metres tall.
But repeated hard impacts on the plastic shells have allowed water to get inside and w -
'What byelection?:' Voter-turnout expectations low for Vancouver byelection
via vancouversun.comWhen is 20 per cent considered a passing grade? When you’re talking about a municipal byelection.

via vancouversun.comThe B.C.-based tuna company that topped Greenpeace’s sustainability ranking is incensed by Ocean Brands television ads that appear to claim the title for themselves.
The Oceans ad claims “Greenpeace ranks Oceans as the most sustainable, readily available national brand of canned tuna in all of Canada.”
But the rankings released in July placed Raincoast Trading tuna in the top spot, and Richmond-based Ocean Brands in fourth.
“I was absolutely shocked that th -
Kimberley to truck deer out of town rather than cull the animals
via vancouversun.comKIMBERLEY — The mayor of Kimberley says killing urban deer is no longer an option in the southeastern British Columbia city and councillors will instead consider relocating the animals.
Don McCormick says officials in Kimberley have done an outstanding job of exploring all deer management options, but the numbers are climbing again.
Deer can damage infrastructure and be aggressive to people and pets.
A cull was conducted in Kimberley in 2012 but McCormick says because the city relies on to -

Elin Sigurdson outlined arguments against the $7.4-billion project approved last November but now challenged by First Nations, two environmental groups and the cities of Vancouver and Burnaby.
Indigenous groups were required to go to tremendous -
