But two days ahead of flying from Vancouver to Beijing to get to the exhibition game, he’ll be on the road from Duncan to Chilliwack with the Cowichan Capitals, the B.C. junior team he bought for “around $1 million” last year.
“I’ll get back in the evening,” for the Canucks’ game, says Zhang. “Beijingers are pretty good as -
Opinion: Renewables cheaper, more dependable than Site C
via vancouversun.comLast week, Prof. Mark Jaccard penned a passionate defence of Site C in order to meet environmental standards in 2050. His aims are honest. His environmental goals are imperative. Sadly, his utility planning skills may not be up to the task.
The problem with Site C is not that it is a hydroelectric project. The problem with Site C lies in the economics. When Site C was proposed, fossil fuel prices were high. The cost of renewables were twice what they are now. Loads were not increasing terribly r -
Squid Kids prevail in Eastside photo finish, Fox Run dazzles, run news
via vancouversun.comTwo sweet senior women, discussing how much they enjoyed running in the third annual Forever Young 8K in Richmond earlier this month — while passing me in Saturday’s Under Armour Eastside 10K — asked what it’s like to blog about a sport that seems to be “cannibalizing itself” with conflicting Lower Mainland races.
My answer? “Challenging. There’s one of me, many of them!”
My take on that growing “elephant in the room” question wou -
Businesses talk trade, Hollywood North to Bollywood
via vancouversun.comVancouver Film School executives realized that had reached the point where it made more sense to take Hollywood North to Bollywood, rather than try to recruit more Indian students to its Vancouver campus.
So VFS has just reached an agreement to export its services to India in the form of two campuses there as public-private partnerships, one in Mumbai and one in Hyderabad, Diwakar Gandhi, the school’s director of international strategy, said Tuesday at the B.C.-India Partnership Summit in -

“It was really, really loud, right next to me,” she said.
When she got back up, Calderoni saw her beloved dog Kaoru had been hit by a bullet about three metres away and was bleeding profusely.

'Did I miss something?': Some Vancouver councillors don't share mayor's Amazon enthusiasm
via vancouversun.comNot everyone at Vancouver city hall seems as excited as the mayor about the city’s prospects of luring Amazon to open a second headquarters here.
But the agency leading the effort to bring the tech giant to Vancouver says they’re set to meet next month’s bid deadline, and are consulting with stakeholders including local governments outside the city limits and around the region.
At Tuesday’s Vancouver city council meeting, the first session back after the summer break, Gre -

via vancouversun.comCouncillors for the District of Oak Bay are asking the province to extend its proposed curbs on big money political donations to municipalities across B.C.
On Monday, Premier John Horgan unveiled a bill that would ban union and corporate donations to campaigns and limit individual contributions to $1,200 a year. But such changes would not apply to local elections.
For Coun. Kevin Murdoch, they should. He suggested a resolution be sent to this year’s Union of B.C. Municipalities -

People with disabilities, advocates call for bus passes before Jan. 1
via vancouversun.comDelphine Charmley’s sons had a measure of independence before the former B.C. Liberal government made changes to the disabled bus pass program last year.
“They were quite independent. They would think nothing of grabbing their bus pass and going out with their friends or to their Special Olympics practices,” the Nanaimo mom of nine said. “Without it, they don’t have that luxury.”
Last September, the Liberals increased disability payments for 100,000 British Co -

Ian Mulgrew: "Rapacious" civil jury fees upheld by B.C.'s top judges
via vancouversun.comHigh civil jury fees may be too costly for large segments of the province’s middle class and needy, but they are not unconstitutional, B.C.’s top judges say.
Court of Appeal Chief Justice Robert Bauman — supported by colleagues Richard Goepel and Lauri Ann Fenlon — ruled that it was OK for the wealthy to have a choice between a judge-alone or civil jury trial while those who cannot afford the levies were forced to accept a judge alone.

ART SEEN: Uninterrupted delivers unique public art experience in Vancouver
via vancouversun.comThe salmon in Uninterrupted are as big as whales. They slowly swim on the foundations of the Cambie Bridge and overhead on the underside of the deck.
With an evocative soundscape instead of narration, Uninterrupted uses visual story telling to transport viewers into the lifecycle of the salmon. But that doesn’t do justice to the experience of Uninterrupted. It’s as much about seeing the amazing projections underneath the bridge as having a communal experience seeing it outdoors with -
