Daphne Bramham: Women's workplace advocacy group gets another male leader
via vancouversun.comSeriously? For the second consecutive time, the group that aims to accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion couldn’t find a woman to chair its own board of directors.
Late last week, Catalyst Canada announced that Victor Dodig will replace Bill Downe as chairman. Dodig may well be a very nice guy and all that. Since he is CEO of CIBC, he’s clearly a competent manager. His predecessor, Downe, is also probably a good guy. As the Bank of Montreal’s CEO, he too kno -
Gas station companies cashing out on value of Vancouver real estate
via vancouversun.comVancouver will likely lose more gas stations as land values soar and high-density zoning along major corridors in the city encourages more fuel companies to cash out, says a commercial real estate expert.
“Gas stations are typically located in prime areas on corners of major crossroads, and just the opportunity costs of capital that’s built within those sites, and how it’s been growing over the years — it makes sense to me,” said Curtis Scott, manager of market inte -

Raise-A-Reader: Marpole centre helps dad grow love for books in kids
via vancouversun.comEven though his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter can’t read yet, Denis Ryan fosters a love of books in her by reading to her and taking her to the neighbourhood centre to take part in literacy programs.
“Books are just so valuable, even enjoying comic books, like I did,” said Ryan, a stay-at-home dad of Ada (and another one on the way).
“It’s making sure they have an engagement with books,” he said. “It’s not so much about her learning the letters -

via vancouversun.comVICTORIA – Premier John Horgan admitted Tuesday his new bill to provide public subsidies to political parties was not what he campaigned on in the last election, but argued it is still an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars.
“I’m unapologetic about wanting to get big money out of politics,” he told reporters at the legislature. “I’m unapologetic about having a transition fund that will be gone by the next election.”
Horgan faced pointed questions in the -

REAL SCOOP: Arson at LeClair's house months before murder

Three fragrances to spritz on this fall
via vancouversun.comFragrances can be transformative.
A single spritz of a soft floral scent can make a wearer feel more feminine, while a heady cedar can conjure images of the outdoors and a musky vanilla can bring on a certain sense of sex appeal.
But, aside from their mood-altering capabilities, fragrances, much like their cosmetic counterparts, also offer shoppers an accessible entry point into some of the most luxurious brands in the world.
This fall, there are a host of scents hitting shops that a -
