Escape at Colony Farm psych hospital never reported to public
via vancouversun.comA patient escaped from the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam last month, spending the night on the lam before he was recaptured the next morning, Postmedia News has learned.
But none of the secure facility’s neighbours were warned of the escape.
The Provincial Health Services Authority confirmed a patient escaped from the fenced-in facility on Colony Farm Road on the evening of July 4.
“They were picked up the next morning,” said Carol Swan, who speaks for the hea -

Construction costs rising as fires affect B.C. lumber supply
via vancouversun.comVICTORIA — Fires in the province are driving up the cost of building materials — and there appears to be no price relief in sight, according to industry insiders.
The staples of home construction — lumber and sheeting materials such as plywood and oriented strand board — have increased by 10 and 40 per cent, respectively, and the pace of price changes appears to be increasing.
According to Tim Urquhart, president of Slegg Building Materials in Victoria, the company has tr -
Opinion: Vancouver increases density bonusing for rentals
via vancouversun.comThe City of Vancouver continues its relentless crisis capitalism to address the ongoing housing affordability problems that are, in part, its own creation. The recent city proposals are to use a density bonus scheme to create more “affordable” rental housing supply. This looks remarkably like a repackaging of the failed Short Term Incentives for Rentals (STIR) program that was cancelled in 2012 and the subsequent Rental 100 program, but now with more density bonuses.

Makeover: Looking for a natural and soft complexion
via vancouversun.comLynda Mills is a realtor and wanted a new look for her headshots.
Lynda has fine hair, which was previously highlighted. The tonality of her blond was very golden and brassy, and I wanted to brighten and clarify it. I applied full weave foils throughout her hair using a silk infused decolourizer and incorporated lowlights to add contrast and depth to her hair. To refine the colour, I applied a demi-permanent, ammonia-free colour to her hair to create a crisp-champagne finish.
I shampooed her hai -

via vancouversun.comA North Vancouver man who was found guilty of sexually assaulting and assaulting his former girlfriend has had his conviction overturned on appeal.
In May 2015, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Gail Dickson found Mohammadmahdy Hamzehali guilty of the offences against his ex-girlfriend, who can only be identified by the initials S.M. due to a publication ban.

Add a tropical touch to your garden with easy-to-grow figs
via vancouversun.comThe cultivation of figs goes back to ancient times. They are one of the most interesting fruits we can grow in our gardens, but they can also seem intimidating, especially for novice gardeners. In reality, they are beautiful, easily cultivated, heat and drought tolerant plants that add a wonderful tropical touch to any garden.
Jim Gilbert is a fig guru living in Oregon, who opened the well-known Northwoods Nursery, a wholesale exotic fruit supplier, in the early 1980s.&nb -
