Choosing the right landscaper key to outdoor room success
via vancouversun.comWith home prices remaining sky high, many folks are looking not only to remodel their existing house but also to extend their living space by creating amazing outdoor rooms.
Done well, these spaces can create a whole new level of enjoyment in our gardens, large or small. Because many of us don’t have the skill set to create the look and feel we want, we rely on professional landscapers for both the hardscape elements, and the surround of plants.

He appreciates emotional appeals are extremely compelling and he understands why we all want to rally around a good story.
King, however, worries we’re making complicated policy and land use decisions based on emotion and sidelining the facts. That’s why he decided to speak up. Look for him on any social m -

Town Talk: Deighton Cup adherents just dodge a dousing
via vancouversun.comCUP ALMOST RUNNETH OVER: For nine years, Deighton Cup organizers Dax Droski, Jordan Kallman and Tyson Villeneuve have gambled on the weather rather than the thoroughbreds at Hastings Racecourse. With many lightly dressed, highly heeled, sketchily hatted women and their escorts attending, rain could result in what regular railsiders call a mudder. This year, showers turned to drizzle, then evaporated before the second race (Fetisov paid $3.20 for the win). The conditions were a warning to Social -

Anthony Gismondi: Good things happening in the Okanagan
via vancouversun.comSome observations after 10 days in the Okanagan Valley.
First, if you need a job you could be working the first day you arrive in the area. If you have any hospitality or wine experience, you could probably write your own ticket. Accommodations are another story; like Vancouver and Whistler, they are tight and getting tighter.
A new and much welcomed addition to the hotel scene are some sensational rooms at The Penticton Lakeside Resort. The all-wood building that was built in the front parking -
REAL SCOOP: Surrey man gets 13 years in U.S. prison for drug smuggling
via vancouversun.comKevin Kerfoot had all the advantages growing up on the Lower Mainland. But the 53-year-old Surrey man still decided on a life of crime.
And now he will spend 13 years in a U.S. prison after being sentenced Thursday in Seattle.
Interestingly, Kerfoot was identified in U.S. court documents as the likely mastermind of a targeted hit on a witness in the case, though he has never been charged in the shooting.
Fortunately the man survived and continued to cooperate with U.S. authorities.

You probably don’t need me to tell you anyt -

via vancouversun.comAfter two fundamentalist Mormon leaders were found guilty of polygamy this week, it’s worth considering that the prosecution may have done more harm than good — especially if the case was meant to send a warning to the people in Bountiful that polygamy won’t be tolerated.
The verdicts have galvanized people. On social media at least, one of them — Winston Blackmore — is being hailed as a hero, if not a martyr to the faith.
