An elderly man has been charged with two counts of murder following the death of two neighbours in a West End building.

KAMLOOPS — A British Columbia lottery winner says he will donate some of his cash to the province’s wildfire battle.
Jason Labby of Kamloops won $500,000 playing the Extra on the July 7 Lotto Max draw.
Labby hasn’t said how much he will donate but that a portion of his winnings will help people affected by scores of wildfires.
Labby also intends to use his windfall to buy a home.

Police are recommending a criminal charge against a driver who allegedly hit a cyclist in West Vancouver last month and drove off.
On June 10, a cyclist was hit by a pickup truck and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The cyclist, a 48-year-old man, has since been released from hospital but continues to recover from fractures in several ribs, as well as a concussion.

According to poll results released following recent high-profile cases of animal abuse, the majority of Canadians are willing to pay more if it means food companies will take greater strides toward better animal welfare.

Watt is safe, and no further details have been released.

Christopher Schafer, 40, failed to return to his residential correctional facility in Vancouver on July 13. He’s a federal offender who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Deaf woman sentenced to 2 years less a day for sex assault of teen

A deaf woman who committed sex offences against a trouble underage girl has been sentenced to two years less a day in prison.
In March, a jury found Moreen Akumu, 36, guilty of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, being a householder who permitted prohibited sexual activity and sexual assault in relation to the offences involving the 14-year-old girl, who cannot be identified due to a publication ban.
