IHIT identifies Abbotsford murder victim as Clarence John Crothers

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is trying to figure out who would kill 62-year-old Clarence John Crothers.
Crothers’ body was found by Abbotsford police Tuesday morning inside an apartment in the 33000-block of Braun Avenue.

Vancouver’s housing sales have divided into two separate markets with condominium’s being snatched up while detached homes remain on the market longer.
Figures released Wednesday by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver showed an 11.5 per cent drop in the market last month compared with the over-heated market in June last year.

A police incident near a Surrey school had summer school students being kept inside for safety reasons Wednesday morning.
According to Surrey RCMP, a police incident in the 7000 block of 191st Street is the reason why Clayton Heights Secondary, which is several blocks away, was placed on “lockout” for about an hour and a half. VICTORIA — Health researchers wrongly fired in 2012 have received letters of apology and cheques, ranging from $15,000 to $125,000, from the head of the B.C. Public Service.

PARKSVILLE, B.C. — Parched conditions on British Columbia’s west coast has prompted a campfire ban.
The BC Wildfire Service says all open fires, including campfires, will be banned across the Coastal Fire Centre starting on Thursday, although gas, propane or briquette cooking stoves are still permitted.
Only Haida Gwaii and the fog zone, a thin strip along the western edge of Vancouver Island, are exempt from the ban.

A man is in hospital and another man in custody following a targeted shooting in Surrey Tuesday evening.
Around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, a suspect opened fire inside Sushi Rei, located at a strip mall at the corner of 148th Street and 108 Avenue in the Guildford area. Police who responded to the call found a man in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshots.

The DNA of several individuals, including at least one male and one female, was found on a hoodie discarded following the murder of Jonathan Bacon, a Kelowna court heard Tuesday.
Jason McBride, Michael Jones and Jujhar Khun-Khun were arrested in 2013 and charged with first-degree murder for the August 2011 killing of Bacon, along with the attempted murder of four others.
They have pleaded not guilty on all counts.

A woman who had been stranded for five days in a ravine in Surrey has been rescued.
The woman, who told firefighters she’d been there since Thursday, was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a passerby in the Delta Creek ravine near 97th Avenue and 117B Street.
Clint Whitla had been looking for his stolen bike, and ended up at a dead end where 96A Avenue dropped off into the ravine, so he decided to go for a walk to clear his head.

A fire in the Okanagan community of Kaleden has consumed a pair of homes and 30 homes have been evacuated, according to reports.
Max Birkner of the B.C. Wildfire Service said Tuesday night he couldn’t confirm if a house had been destroyed, but did say buildings were “threatened.”

Abbotsford police are investigating after a man was found dead inside an apartment Tuesday morning.
Police and paramedics were called to an apartment complex in the 33000-block Braun Avenue at around 7 a.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death doesn’t appear connected to gangs in the Lower Mainland, said police, but appears suspicious in nature.

Harrison Lake fire doubles in size

The fire burning north of Harrison Hot Springs has doubled in size and is now estimated at 115 hectares, or 1.15 square kilometres. The human-caused fire, which sparked up on Saturday, is just five per cent contained.

Three people died in two crashes Tuesday on Highway 5 in the B.C. Interior.
RCMP Cpl. Janelle Shoihet saids the first crash happened just before 6 a.m., about 40 kilometres south of Kamloops when a southbound vehicle hit a deer and veered down an embankment.
