CFL legend lends support to Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation’s ‘Get Behind Lui’ campaign
via vancouversun.com
Win each day.
That motto surely helped Lui Passaglia on his way to becoming a record-breaking CFL Hall of Famer, but they’ve become words to live by since he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer nearly four years ago.
“I try to treat every day like it’s a game and win each day,” says the legendary kicker/punter, who has been cancer free for almost four years now. “And thankfully, so far so good.”
Since his life-changing diagnosis, Passaglia has been on a missi -
REAL SCOOP: Murder charges dropped in gang case
via vancouversun.com
It is very unusual to have murder charges stayed – or dropped – in B.C. But that’s exactly what happened recently in the case of two Edmonton men who had been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of a man in Richmond almost three years ago.
NOTE: I will be out of the country for three weeks and unable to monitor the REAL SCOOP so am closing comments tonight until I’m back.
Here’s my story:

Opinion: Time to bring epilepsy awareness out of the dark ages
via vancouversun.com
It is one of the most common brain ailments, affecting more than 65 million people globally, and yet it remains shrouded in stigma and ignorance. It’s epilepsy, a disease that is as old as civilization itself.
According to Epilepsy Canada, tablets regarding medical records from Babylonia dating to 2000 B.C. accurately describe the different types of epileptic seizures.
In Canada, it is estimated that around 139,200 people have epilepsy. The good news is that according to a Statistics Canad -
Crown stays first-degree murder charges in Richmond gang killing
via vancouversun.com
In a rare move, prosecutors have stayed two first-degree murder charges against a pair of Edmonton suspects alleged to have killed a man in Richmond in 2014.
The charges against Sean Jacob Lee Jennings and David Nguyen were quietly tossed out on June 22, 2017, Crown spokesman Dan McLaughlin confirmed in an email.
The two had been charged with the first-degree murder of Theoren Gregory Poitras in a gangland shooting near a Richmond elementary school on Oct. 2, 2014.

Five prospects to watch at Canucks development camp

Elias Pettersson
1. ELIAS PETTERSSON, C, Timra IK (Hockey Allsvenskan), 6-foot, 165 lbs.
The stats: GP: 43, G:19, A:21, PTS: 40
The skinny: First pick, fifth overall, in 2017 draft. What intrigued the Canucks in pursuing Pettersson is today’s evolving game. Look at how smaller and swifter players are using speed, imagination and finish to make a big impact in what was always thought to be a big man’s game. It’s not anymore.
The quote: “I play with a lot of instincts and I -

Richmond man who fought Mandarin-only meetings moves away
via vancouversun.com
A Richmond man who took his fight over Mandarin-only strata meetings at his townhouse complex to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal has moved away from the city with his family.
Andreas Kargut and six other residents filed a class-action complaint because they couldn’t participate in a Mandarin-only meeting in the 54-unit complex. They claimed they were being discriminated against by the strata council.
After the parties reached a pre-settlement last year, things appeared as though they w -
Two for The Show, a lot on the go at Canucks development camp
via vancouversun.com
Of the 36 participants at the Vancouver Canucks development camp this week, only one should make the opening-night roster while another could push for a spot.
This is actually a good thing.
There are a dozen prospects at this camp who project as promising future pros. And that’s the instructional focus Tuesday and Wednesday at UBC in advance of a game Thursday before season-ticket holders at Rogers Arena.
In the short term, it’s about Brock Boeser and Olli Juolevi. In the long term, -
