Chief Doug LePard has built his 36-year policing career on protecting and serving — and most recently, expanded that to include studying, too.
LePard, a former deputy chief of the Vancouver Police Department and the current chief of the Transit Police, graduated Tuesday from the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford with a master’s degree in criminal justice. He was also awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for his near-perfect 4.23 grade point average.

Albert Sweetnam, former head of the Capital Regional District’s now-defunct Seaterra sewage treatment program, continued to be among the top earners at the CRD last year — for not being on the job.
Sweetnam’s job wrapped up in September 2015, but according to just-released CRD financial documents, he continued to draw $224,121 in salary in 2016. It’s a bit of a drop from 2015, when Sweetnam was paid $283,089.53 in salary and expenses. And taxpayers can take heart — -

VICTORIA — As New Democratic Party Leader John Horgan tells it, his proposed review of the $9 billion Site C hydroelectric project on the Peace River doesn’t lack for size, scope and ambition.
“We would direct the B.C. Utilities Commission to answer specific questions about why the decision was made, what the cost of going forward would be, what the consequences were going to be for Hydro rates in the long term, and what other alternatives were available that were less cos -

A new report from a Vancouver credit union says home buyers on British Columbia’s southern coast can no longer turn to the suburbs to find more affordable housing.
Vancity tracked the markets in 30 municipalities in the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria over a 12-month period that ended on Feb. 28, calculating the median price of housing in each community and comparing that with the median income of residents.
Vancouver became only marginally less affordable over the period, but Vancity -

via vancouversun.com
B.C. Premier Christy Clark fired back Tuesday at the NDP over its request to suspend the removal of two homes in the Peace River valley, declaring it could result in a $600-million cost increase to the Site-C hydroelectric project.
In a letter released publicly, NDP Leader John Horgan responded by calling her claims on the additional costs “unsupported.”
In another, earlier version of the letter, which the NDP said was sent to Clark in error, even stronger language was used.

REAL SCOOP: Sisters caught glimpse of driver in suspect SUV
via vancouversun.com
There were more “civilian” witnesses at the trial of Jujhar Khun-Khun, Michael Jones and Jason McBride today. These are people who just happened to be near the scene of the Jonathan Bacon murder on Aug. 14, 2011 and are telling Justice Allan Betton what they saw.
I expect this phase of the trial will continue for a few more days before the Crown moves into calling police and forensic specialists.
Here’s my story:

Ben Kuzma: Are the Canucks ready to trade for Evander Kane?
via vancouversun.com
Can a polarizing left-winger with a scoring touch and checkered past be part of the Vancouver Canucks’ rebuild?
The answers: Absolutely and absolutely not.
Mention the possibility of acquiring 25-year-old Evander Kane in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres, who have a new general manager and are still looking to land an established defenceman like Chris Tanev, Jake Muzzin or Alec Martinez from the Los Angeles Kings, and debate in this market understandably rages like a wildfire.
The Sabres and -
