  Throw on your rain jacket and pop that umbrella because an atmospheric river is on its way to western parts of Vancouver Island.
  At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Environment Canada issued a yellow rainfall warning predicting with high confidence that 120 to 180 millimetres of rain will fall today through Monday, Jan. 12.
  The alert spans between Sooke and Kayquot Sound and as far inland as Woss Lake. Most of Greater Victoria falls outside of the warning zone.

  Police have arrested and charged a suspect with murder following a suspicious death in Saanich earlier this week.
  On Jan. 5, Saanich Police Department’s Major Crime Unit began investigating a suspicious death that occurred inside a residence in the 1600 block of Blair Avenue.
  Later that day, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU), which manages and investigates homicides and missing-person cases where criminality is suspected, assumed control of the investigation.

  A job fair for workers from the Crofton pulp mill, which will soon be closing, will be held on Jan. 15.

  One person is dead after a vehicle incident ground Malahat traffic to a halt Saturday afternoon.
  “Preliminary investigation indicates that two vehicles collided head-on,” Shawnigan Lake RCMP said in a news release. “As a result of the collision, one vehicle went down an embankment, while the second vehicle became engulfed in flames.”
