B.C. senior receives national nod for decades of volunteer efforts
When it comes to keeping secrets, Gérald Young doesn’t have the strongest history – any gift the White Rock senior has ever bought for “my dearest” over their decades together has never made it to the occasion it was chosen for.
So it’s no wonder his wife June was stunned to learn last fall that he’d been holding onto a doozy for four years: that he’d submitted her name back in October 2021 for one of Canada’s highest honours: the Governor G -

A new report from B.C.’s forestry advisory council finds the province’s forestry sector is outdated and opaque, and the old ways are not working for communities, business, First Nations or the environment.
The report recommends rethinking the entire forestry system, eliminating broad timber harvest targets and moving to a system of “land care” that manages forests regionally.
“This isn’t about tinkering around the edges or adding more rules,” said Shanno -

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The need for a seniors’ emergency department
To the editor,
The emergency department at NRGH is the busiest on Vancouver Island and due to our aging population in this area, this means that every third person entering the ER is a senior. The senior may be you, your spouse, your mother, your father, or even your grandmother or grandfather.
The staff at the NRGH Emergency Department recognize this and plan to create a more senior-friendly space with the hope that their elderly patients will receive the specialized care they need. To that end -
