The Port Alberni RCMP saw a 4.8 per cent increase in calls in 2025 compared to 2024.
In the final quarter of 2025, from October to December, Mounties received 3,364 calls for service.

Acting merit commissioner selected for transition to B.C.’s Public Service Agency
The B.C. government says an acting merit commissioner will ensure the province’s public service employees “experience no service interruptions” while the role transitions to the Public Service Agency.
The decision by the province to dissolve the merit commissioner’s independent office was revealed on Feb. 17 as part of B.C.’s Budget 2026. Finance Minister Brenda Bailey said the office’s duties will be internally taken over by the Public Service Agency.

Tofino RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance locating Dustin Bauming.
Bauming, 40, was last seen on March 2 in Tofino around Tonquin Trail and Industrial Way, according to an RCMP bulletin. An RCMP helicopter could be seen flying low along the coastline by the trail on Monday, March 9.
Bauming is described as a 6’2” tall caucasian male with grey hair and blue eyes and weighing around 290lbs.

Latest report says Nanaimo rental rates continue climb
B.C. continues to lead Canada in falling rental rates, but Nanaimo may not yet be following the trend.
According to a report released by Rental.ca Monday, March 9, average rents for all rental unit types are continuing to fall across most provinces, but B.C. is leading the country with a drop of 4.9 per cent to an average monthly rental rate of $2,375 across the province, followed by Ontario at 4.7 per cent; Alberta at 4.6 per cent; and Quebec at 3.1 per cent compared to 2025.

B.C. snowpack near normal but some regions face drought risk
British Columbia’s provincial snow pack is slightly below normal, according to the latest information from the province.
The Snow Survey and Water Supply Bulletin from March 1, released on March 10, showed the average snow pack is 91 per cent of normal levels, which is considerably higher than one year earlier, when the snow pack was 73 per cent of normal.
However, some areas in the province are considerably lower than normal.

A potential threat made against Chetwynd Secondary School has been deemed unfounded, according to RCMP.
On March 6, Chetwynd RCMP received a report of a potential threat to the school via an anonymous email.

Nanaimo RCMP looking for missing 25-year-old man
The Nanaimo RCMP is requesting the public to help locate a 25-year-old Jorawar (Joey) Dosanjh, who has not been seen since Feb. 28.
