The private members bill, which was introduced by the MLA for Juan de Fuca-Malahat Dana Lajeunesse, would toughen up the penalties for dangerous drivers in B.C. if it passes.
The move to change the driving laws comes after 12-year-old Xavier Rasul-Jankovics was struck and killed by a car while he was rollerblading with his family on a rural road near their home in Cobble Hill on Aug. 25. -

Human remains found in North Coast Indigenous community identified
The RCMP dispatched search and rescue teams this week after human remains were found in Lax Kw’alaams, an Indigenous community on the North Coast near Prince Rupert.

The RCMP dispatched search and rescue teams this week after human remains were found in Lax Kw’alaams, an Indigenous community on the North Coast near Prince Rupert.
On Nov. 27, the RCMP confirmed the remains have been positively identified by the BC Coroners Service as Lawrence Maitland, who was reported missing in July 2019.

The BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is ringing the alarm bell after zero steelhead trout were detected in the Fraser River this year.
During the steelhead’s 12-week migration window this summer, the BCWF said the DFO Interior Fraser Test Fishery at Albion did not detect a single Interior Fraser steelhead during the test fishing period. This is the worst result since records first began being kept back in the 1970s.

Pilot dies in plane crash south of Nanaimo
A pilot died in a plane crash in the Nanaimo River Road area early this morning.
In a press release, Nanaimo RCMP said reports of a crash in a wooded area near Twilight Way began coming in at 3 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27.
The plane, a Sealand Flight Cessna 172, originated from Sealand Flight school in Campbell River.

No survivors as plane crashes south of Nanaimo
There are no survivors after a plane crashed in the Nanaimo River Road area early this morning.
In a press release, Nanaimo RCMP said reports of a crash in a wooded area near Twilight Way began coming in at 3 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27.
There is a large debris field and while it is not known how many were on the aircraft, there were no survivors, the press release stated.

Pair of bald eagle carcasses found near Transfer Beach in Ladysmith
For Mark Evans, it was a most unwelcome discovery.
Evans, visiting Transfer Beach in Ladysmith on Nov. 14, spotted the carcasses of a pair of bald eagles.
“I was disturbed to find the carcasses of two bald eagles that had been dumped beside the gravel parking lot,” said Evans.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have signed a memorandum of understanding to work toward building an oil pipeline to B.C.’s north coast.

Alberni Valley Rescue Squad search finds overdue hunter at 1 a.m.
The Alberni Valley Rescue Squad (AVRS) went on a late-night search for a hunter who was late returning home.
At 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, the rescue squad was called out by RCMP: an overdue hunter had left a detailed trip plan including names of back roads they planned to use. That information gave the rescuers a solid starting point for their search.
Thanks to that detailed plan, rescuers found the hunter around 1 a.m.

Ottawa Charge team captain Brianne Jenner is now tied for the PWHL single-game record after scoring two goals and getting two assists in Wednesday night’s game against the Vancouver Goldeneyes.
