Playing pipeline politics: B.C. left out of rumoured Alberta MOU talks
If Alberta and the federal government are close to signing a memorandum of understanding about a new oil pipeline across northern British Columbia, it is news to B.C.’s premier.
Despite the pipeline needing to cross the entire province, and requiring an end to a longstanding oil tanker ban on the north coast, B.C. Premier David Eby is being left out of those discussions.
“These talks about eliminating the ban on oil tankers off our coast have taken place without anyone from British C -

If a deal seems too good to be true, that’s probably because it is.
That’s a lesson that Simon Lake resident Donald Lipsett had to learn the hard way last week. Lipsett said he got a call from a man claiming to be from Telus offering him a new deal on phones. The caller was convincing enough that Lipsett gave him his credit card information before realizing his mistake. While he didn’t lose a large amount of money, he still wants people to know how he got scammed.

Dancing bellringer keeps the cheer coming as Salvation Army kettles return to B.C.
Sandi Thiessen apparently doesn’t need much of an excuse to bust a move, and volunteering at a Salvation Army donation kettle is reason enough.
The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministry is gathering volunteers for its annual Christmas kettle campaign, and Thiessen was out in front of the No Frills in Maple Ridge on a weekday afternoon, dancing away a two-hour shift, ringing bells, and inspiring donors.

1 year later: From ashes of Vancouver Island fire rises community support
A year ago, it was raining fire in Saanich.
In the early hours of Nov. 20, 2024, flames tore through a building under construction at the corner of Quadra Street and Palmer Road. Driven by strong winds, burning embers drifted down nearby Lodge Avenue, landing on the roofs and yards of unsuspecting residents.
“My pyjamas were on fire while I was trying to save our house,” recalls Melanie Dry, who, with help from her partner, used garden hoses to fight spot fires on their property.

B.C. school finds itself at centre of political debate on overcrowding
The BC Conservative Party is accusing the provincial government of relying on outdated data when planning and building schools, a practice they say has contributed to overcrowding in new facilities.
The party pointed to the newly built Cedar Hill Middle School in Greater Victoria, which opened in September, as an example of what it calls “poor planning.”
Nearly three months into the school year, the Conservatives are claiming that the school, which welcomes more than 500 students, is -
