Life Stories: Dr. Jacques Mackay was an innovative children's psychiatrist
Those who speak of Dr. Jacques Mackay fondly recalled both his ability to make others laugh and his dedication to the field of psychiatry.
“Jacques was charismatic and warm,” Dr. Paule Morin said. “He was an extraordinary listener.”
Mackay, who died on June 2, spent the majority of his career working at the Rivière-des-Prairies Hospital. Initially brought in as the hospital’s assistant superintendent in 1970, he would serve in several other capacities during -

Commentary: My mother, Anthony Bourdain and why food is everything
The other night, I genuinely screamed, scaring my husband and shocking my little girl.
“What!? What is it?”
“Anthony Bourdain killed himself!” I shouted.
“Who is Anthony Bourdain?” asked my Israeli man.
The truth? I don’t really know. He is a cooking saint I heard about through my mother. One of the many kings and queens of the kitchen she has revered. And like a lapsed Catholic, or a Jew who has laughed at, or spit on, or sat in awe and in ignorance of -

Members of the city’s Chinese community said Sunday the city has flushed its plan to install a public toilet in the pagoda in Sun-Yat-Sen Park at La Gauchetière and Clark Sts.
Bryant Chang, vice-president of the Chinese Association of Montreal, said community members learned on Thursday from workers who were dismantling the work site that the toilet would not be installed after all.

Marc Richardson: Quebec's cannabis legislation is a work in progress
“The bill is probably not perfect.”
That was what Lucie Charlebois, the provincial public health minister, had to say after Bill 157 was approved by MNAs. Never has imperfection sounded so perfect and never has everyone been so certain about uncertainty.
Why is an imperfect piece of legislation exactly what’s needed when it comes to cannabis? Well, actually, it’s not that the bill is imperfect, it’s that we’re admitting that this version of the law won’t -
Zurkowsky: Alouettes looked great in season opener — for one quarter
VANCOUVER — Tyrell Sutton, now in his seventh season with the Alouettes, has seen this movie before, more times than he would care to remember. Perhaps that’s why he sat there, in stunned silence, with his uniform on, staring straight ahead.
“We let one slip through our fingers. We have to do a lot better as an offence,” the Montreal tailback said following this season-opening 22-10 loss to the British Columbia Lions Saturday night. “You can write this is the same A -
Jack Todd: Max Domi doesn’t have what Alex Galchenyuk has
I haven’t seen a whole lot of the Arizona Coyotes the past couple of seasons — perhaps because they were rancid.
Most of what I recall of Max Domi dates back to the world juniors, when he was pretty good — and so flashy that he made P.K. Subban look like a shrinking violet. Let’s just say that if cockiness was talent, Max Domi would have been Connor McDavid.
He isn’t.
Perhaps a couple of tough years in the desert have taught the young man how to be humble. We’ -

Some cities have been particularly successful at building a critical mass of cyclists. The daily commute in Montreal offers cyclists almost 850 kilometres of cycling paths. But as any M -
