The Quebec government is recommending that Denis Gallant, former chief prosecutor for the Charbonneau Commission and current inspector general for Montreal, be named to direct its new body overseeing all public contracts, the Autorité des marchés publics, Radio-Canada reported Tuesday.
His name will be submitted Wednesday or Thursday to the MNAs of the National Assembly. Two-thirds of them will have to approve of the government’s choice.

A new database, Katalogue, launched on Tuesday as a one-stop shop of the city’s burgeoning artists.
The catalogue in its current iteration is simple: It showcases about 1,100 artists, along with their genre, the names of their members and links to where their music lives online, be it Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud or Facebook. It also links to Spotify and Soundcloud playlists featuring the artists from the site.

QUEBEC — The province now has legislation governing the use of recreational marijuana even if Ottawa’s plan has yet to be made law.
Months in the works, MNAs on Tuesday gave final approval to Bill 157, a law making pot a government owned and operated business with strict controls. Despite Quebec’s image as a very open society, the law is among the most conservative in the country.

The city of Montreal will give more than $1.7 million to community organizations that provide services to homeless people.

Lyme disease on the rise in Montreal, but it's usually contracted elsewhere
The number of Montreal Island residents who were infected with Lyme disease jumped by 84 per cent last year from 2016, say authorities who are bracing for another big increase in the incidence of the tick-borne illness this summer.

The vacancy rate for standard spaces in seniors’ housing in Quebec stood at 6.9 per cent in February, compared to 6.2 per cent at the same time last year, an analysis by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) found.

Laval police are looking for Dado-Bousso Ba, who has been missing since June 1.
Ba left her home on foot to meet friends and hasn’t returned.
Ba is 15, five-foot-five-inches tall with brown hair. She speaks French and was last seen wearing a black and white striped sweater and a black vest. Her family fears for her safety.
