That was the story for Montreal driver Lance Stroll at Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Stroll’s Williams car and the Red Bull driven by Brendon Hartley were side-by-side going into Turn 5 on the first lap. That’s when Stroll appeared to oversteer and lose the back end of his car before making contact with Hartley and driving the Red Bull hard into the wall. Jack Todd: Montreal's F1 race delivers great spectacle, iffy competition
One of these days we’ll figure this out: How is it that Formula One at once embraces a compelling, almost unparalleled spectacle and absolute tedium all in one package?
And in the same race.
This was true when your humble scribe first began covering the race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve nearly 30 years ago — and it’s true today.
Even in a week as rich in sporting spectacle as any you will see — from Alexander Ovechkin finally winning a Stanley Cup and then celebrating wit -

Québec solidaire makes integration of immigrants a priority
Québec solidaire presented its plan Sunday to better integrate into Quebec society immigrants and visible minorities, which the party says are still largely absent from the public service and from political parties.

New F1 owner Liberty Media aims to improve experience for race fans
Seven races into its second season at the helm of Formula One, there’s little doubt new owner Liberty Media has brought change to the sport.
Fans only have to pop onto a social media site to see the difference from the Bernie Ecclestone days when everything in F1 was tightly controlled and any move outside the accepted lines was harshly and swiftly punished.
Liberty spent the better part of its first year at the helm reversing that mindset and ensuring fans got a closer look into the inner -

Fitness: Runners, injury is not inevitable. Take it one step at a time
You know you’re part of the club when you get your first running injury. And since denial is another mark of being a club member, any pain severe enough to force a change in training habits qualifies as an injury.
Estimates suggest that 80 per cent of all runners will be injured sometime in their career, a statistic that explains the copious amount of ink devoted to injury prevention in running magazines, blogs and Facebook groups. Yet despite plenty of advice about what shoes to wear, str -

Steve Ludzik Jr., who had been the Canadiens’ amateur scout in Ontario for the past two seasons, revealed on Twitter Saturday that he had been fired and that he received the news from Canadiens vice-president of player personnel Trevor Timmins during a phone call while he was jogging.

Race day traffic delays to avoid Sunday
The weekend festivities associated with the Canadian Grand Prix will make driving difficult on Sunday. Although usual weekend shutdown of Highway 20 and the Turcot Interchange for construction was put off for the race, getting around downtown will be a chore — and stay away from Ste-Catherine St. unless you want to parade your staid Honda Civic among a glittering Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Here are some road closings to take into account:St-Laurent Blvd. from Sherbrooke St. to Mont-Royal -
Lance Stroll makes inroads during his short time on F1 circuit
After spending most of his rookie season in Formula One under the microscope because of his wealthy father, things haven’t been much easier for Montreal’s Lance Stroll in 2018, although for much different reasons.
After starting slowly during his rookie season last year while struggling to come to grips with the Pirelli ties, Stroll stumbled out of the gate in 2018 because, simply put, the 2018 Williams F1 car he drives has turned out to be a bit of a dog.

Schukov: Condos have no place on Pointe-Claire Village's main strip
So the word is the “iconic” Pioneer bar/restaurant in Pointe-Claire has been sold down the river of condo development pending a running of the Village Code gauntlet.
And while there are two sides that clash over the argument of replacing a wooden eyesore with minty apartments, I would like to illustrate a point:
Imagine walking down the main street of the village and all you see is houses. No Mom and Pop shops. No ice cream joints. No restaurants. Not even a dépanneur. Why sto
