Former Canadien Chris Chelios still keeping himself in top shape at 56
Former Canadiens defenceman Chris Chelios is 56 now, but he still keeps himself in top shape.
Chelios’s daughter, Caley, posted a photo on Twitter Monday afternoon with her father of what she thought was going to be a leisurely, vacation bike ride in Malibu Hills, Calif. That changed when her dad, who was always a fitness freak during his playing career, showed up.
It’s not a vacation until my dad turns a fun, leisurely bike ride into a rigorous death workout 🤮… but it -

Sentencing arguments heard in case of woman who drove into D.D.O. house
Sentencing arguments were heard in a Montreal court Monday afternoon for a woman who drove into someone’s house in D.D.O. at 135 km/hour — while three children were asleep upstairs — causing $350,000 in damages.
The incident took place just after midnight Dec. 1, 2013, but has taken this long to get through the court system, in part because the woman, Melinda Kazandjian, now 29, was finishing her master’s degree in law in California.
She pleaded guilty to a char -

Chilly spring weather means less maple syrup this year from Quebec, the world’s biggest producer.
The province harvested 53,500 tons this season, a 22-per-cent drop from last year’s record 69,000 tons, the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers said Monday. That’s the lowest since 2015 after production was hurt by unusually late snow and cold.

Canadiens refining tools they use to assess NHL prospects
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canadiens have added a few wrinkles to their preparations for the NHL Entry Draft, including a question about the time a player devotes to video games.
The downside of video games was brought to light this year when Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek suggested an unnamed player was struggling because he was spending too much time playing video games. Many players at the NHL combine last week were asked about Fortnite and other online battle games.

Lise Ravary: Québec solidaire, Projet Montréal are two peas in a pod
I’m not sure English-speaking Québécois who consider Québec solidaire a viable alternative to Coalition Avenir Québec, itself an alternative to the Liberals, have read the party’s platform and realize how far left it stands.
Hint: about as far left as Projet Montréal and Mayor Valérie Plante, whose husband is an economist with the “progressive” think tank IRIS, which is an ideological ally of Québec solidaire.

Montreal's forgotten history: A visionary school bringing English and French together
In the heart of what is today Montreal’s Chinatown, a visionary school taught both English and French working-class students.
Founded in 1822, at the British and Canadian School one teacher would oversee hundreds of students, with the older students instructing the younger ones.
Modern day teachers may not approve, but it was an effective way to teach reading, writing and arithmetic to working-class children.
