Filipina caregiver hasn't seen a penny despite Quebec Human Rights ruling
The Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations has won a precedent-setting decision by the Quebec Human Rights Commission ordering an employer to pay a Filipina live-in caregiver $41,600 for violating her rights.
But despite the ruling, the live-in caregiver, Gelyn Dasoc-Hilot, has not received a cent because the employer has only offered an out-of-court settlement of $2,000, said CRARR executive director Fo Niemi.

The Plateau—Mont-Royal borough is moving forward with a plan to preserve a small green space at Clark and Milton Sts.
On Saturday, city councillor Alexander Norris, who represents the area, posted on Facebook that the city has filed a notice of expropriation — meaning it is now just a matter of time before the city acquires Notman Garden in order to turn it into a park.

Update: Body removed from St. Lawrence River was that of a man
Police say a body recovered from the St. Lawrence River on Sunday is that of a man.
The body was spotted by a passer-by Sunday morning at the intersection of Notre Dame St. E. and Haig Ave. in the Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
The body was removed from the water by Montreal firefighters.
The age of the person found remains unknown, said Montreal police spokesperson Constable Caroline Chèvrefils. It also was not known how long the body had been in the water. -

Man in critical condition after assault in downtown Montreal
A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after he was assaulted at the corner of St-Laurent Blvd. and Sherbrooke St. W., according to police.
Police say two men were attacked around 3:45 a.m. The assailants had fled before police arrived and the circumstances of the attack are unknown.
Both suffered head injuries, however the second victim, a 20-year-old man, was not severely injured. -

Gilles Giasson, a 67-year-old Trois-Rivières man, is still missing three days after he disappeared.
Giasson is the father of François Asselin, who was accused of murdering a co-worker last Thursday in Sherbrooke.
