SALLUIT — Elisapie Padlayat says there were two miracles on the day she helped deliver her first baby.
Miracle No. 1 was the beautiful, healthy child that came screaming to life in the Salluit nursing station. Padlayat says she’ll never be able to describe the joy she felt when she saw the baby enter this world.

Montreal coyote hotline set up to report sightings, educate city-dwellers
Concerned about the number of coyote sightings on the island of Montreal, the city is adopting several measures to tackle the problem.
The city is not sure how many coyotes are roaming the island, but since last June, there have been 379 sightings. During that time, five people were bitten or snapped at and 10 dogs were attacked.

Self-cleaning public toilets to debut in Montreal in May
The first three of Montreal’s self-cleaning public toilets are expected to make their official debut in May, officials for the downtown borough of Ville Marie confirmed on Tuesday.

Alexandre Bissonnette: Judge urged to keep mosque security video under wraps
QUEBEC — A judge was urged Tuesday not to grant news media outlets permission to broadcast parts of security-camera video from a Quebec City mosque on the night Alexandre Bissonnette killed six people there.
Prosecutor Thomas Jacques asked Judge Francois Huot not to allow the videos to be made public. He said doing so would “revictimize” the survivors and the families of the mosque shooting and could fuel hate around the world.

Funding shortage leaves Quebec anti-poison centre in 'critical' condition
Quebec’s anti-poison centre, which administers a 24/7 emergency hotline, is in “critical” condition and may have to shut down by September because of a lack of staff and funding.
