Younger Quebecers need to respect, value and spend more time with isolated seniors, perhaps particularly in Quebec’s anglophone communities, the minister responsible for relations with English-speaking Quebecers said Friday.
“There needs to be a major public campaign to sensitize people to the value that these seniors represent for the community,” Kathleen Weil told reporters after a meeting with leaders of about a dozen organizations that serve elderly anglophones on the islan

Cry for justice as Montreal portion of Indigenous inquiry wraps up
In December 2016, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard approached a podium at the National Assembly flanked by the province’s public health, justice, public security and native affairs ministers.

Off-Island hospital completion date pushed back to 2026
The project to build a new hospital in Vaudreuil-Dorion has doubled in size and scope after an analysis of regional needs revealed the initial plans would be inadequate to serve the area’s booming population.

Opinion: Canada must say no to U.S.-style gun lobby rhetoric
Montrealers, led by courageous young students, are marching on March 24 in solidarity with victims of gun violence in U.S. schools and in support of common sense gun laws. They deserve our support.
Canadians can look to our neighbours with a mixture of shock and sadness. Consider the latest descent into madness: Following the tragic shooting in Parkland, Fla., the most significant response proposed by President Donald Trump was to arm teachers.
Far from being typical Trump tripe, this seems like -
Don Macpherson: The holes in François Legault's wall
Something unfortunate has happened to the Coalition Avenir Québec party: people have begun to take it seriously.
In recent months, I’ve often looked back and seen that the CAQ had won the past week in Quebec politics without really doing anything, while the other major parties inflicted damage on each other or themselves.
The CAQ seemed to be heeding advice attributed to Napoleon: never interfere with an enemy while he is in the process of destroying himself.

Canadiens Game Day: Friday could be Josh Gorges' last rodeo with Habs
Former Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges will be in the Sabres’ lineup against Montreal Friday (7 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio) but fellow blue-liner Nathan Beaulieu will be a healthy scratch.
Gorges, who has been a healthy scratch for nine of the last 11 games, might be playing his last game against the Canadiens. The 33-year-old has appeared in only 30 games — with no goals, two assists and a minus-5 rating — and admits that his NHL future is in doubt.

Bill Zacharkiw: Tiny Italian island produces towering dessert wines
Dessert wines may no longer be in vogue, but they have a rich history. Throughout much of the past 500 years, it was these wines, and not dry table wines, that were the most coveted. One of my favourites is the Passito di Pantelleria.
The passito style involves drying grapes to concentrate the sugars, acids and, ultimately, flavours. If you drink amarone or ripasso red wines, you have tasted a passito wine.
Located 50 kilometres from the coast of Tunisia, the volcanic island of Pantelleria is on -

Freedom at 50: Céline Dion is in control as she reaches a milestone
Turning 50 is a big deal, and people often mark it with a major bash.
But not Céline Dion. She claims it’s no biggie.
In fact, the hardest-working woman in showbiz planned to spend the red-letter day — Friday, March 30 — at Las Vegas’s Colosseum at Caesars Palace, doing exactly what she’s been doing on so many nights since she was a teenager: singing on stage. That makes perfect sense: entertaining is what Dion does.
