Allison Hanes: Revitalizing Parc Lafontaine came with citizen input
Sweeping plans to revitalize Parc Lafontaine and augment its grandeur were unveiled by the city before a packed house Tuesday night.
Parc Lafontaine is one of Montreal’s emblematic urban parks, beloved by residents and adored by tourists for its leafy tree canopy, meandering paths and calming ponds. Its storied history dates back 175 years to when it was a farm owned by the Logan family, a clan that spawned the father of Canadian geology, Sir William Logan. But this sprawling green space i -

Army veteran's family tells Indigenous inquiry of police harassment
Growing up in Mistissini, all Nigel Bosum ever wanted as a child was military toys — tanks, planes, soldiers and so on. When his parents gifted him anything else, he sought other children around the Cree community and looked to make trades.
By his early teens, he had already started what his family refers to as his “pre-military” training.
Bosum, 37 today, would build shelters in the woods and stay overnight. He’d lift weights, climb through ditches and run -

Opinion: Time for the CAQ to make public its 'values test'
In an op-ed piece published in the Montreal Gazette March 20, Nathalie Roy, immigration critic for the Coalition Avenir Québec, offered up boilerplate clichés on tolerance, yet refused to specifically outline the criteria, details and mechanics of the CAQ’s values test which, upon failure, would lead to the expulsion of new immigrants.

Show Biz Chez Nous: Sale of Just for Laughs to ICM bad news for Quebec
If you care about Quebec culture, you shouldn’t be laughing about the news that our comedy festival has been sold to an American company. This is not good.
The press release heralding the sale of the Just for Laughs Group/Groupe Juste pour rire makes a point of underlining that the consortium acquiring the fest includes Howie Mandel — “a native Canadian,” it says, using language that is oh so wrong. But make no mistake: that’s just a way of trying to camouflage that -

Hasidic buses in Outremont: ‘Our kids have to go to school’
For years, Malkie Farkas organized the bus routes for the 800 children at one of the Hasidic girls’ schools in Outremont. She put “hours and hours and hours” of time and thought into the task — trying, among other things, to design routes as short as possible to reduce the time children spent aboard buses and to minimize disruption to the traffic flow.

A woman told police she saw him at des Bateliers Park the same day. No one has seen him since.
An Amber Alert was issued, but was then lifted by police. Without a suspected kidnapper or vehicle description, the case did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
