  There has been a spike in the number of pedestrians making claims against the city for injuries incurred by slipping on ice.
  So far this year, 108 people have taken the city to court claiming it was negligent in its maintenance of streets or sidewalks.
  The number of claims is higher than it was in the previous two years. However, that doesn’t mean the city will have to pay out more than usual this year, as claims are often dismissed by the courts.

  A motorist died in a crash on Saturday evening on Highway 20 west in Ste-Julie on the South Shore.
  Around 9:15 p.m., the man lost control of his vehicle, which then hit the pillar of a viaduct.
  The man was conscious when he was taken to a hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
  No trace of braking was found. Police believe the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
