Quebec job growth to rebound: economist

Jack Todd: Molson fends off the hordes, backs Bergevin. But why now?
So it came to pass that as the Ides of March approached, the leader of the Montreal Canadiens found himself in the theatre of public opinion, surrounded by rabble-rousers brandishing their #FireBergevin daggers and screeching for blood.
It was then that one of the gods stepped down from the mountain, raised his palm, and thundered: “Nay! Stay your daggers! Marc Bergevin’s job is safe and secure. I like his plan for the future.”
With that, there was much wailing and gnashing of -
Molson employees vote to accept contract offer
Workers at Montreal’s Molson plant voted on Sunday to accept a new contract offer from their employer.
Union spokesman Stéphane Lacroix said 55 per cent of employees voted in favour of contract.
Just over half of the bottling and delivery workers voted to reject the employer’s previous offer on Feb. 25, and 87 per cent then voted in favour of authorizing strike action.
The workers refused another one of the employer’s offers two weeks earlier by a margin of 57 per cent. -
Pat Hickey: If Drouin is so exceptional, why is he in the doldrums?
The day before the Canadiens played the Tampa Bay Lightning, Brendan Gallagher was asked what he and Paul Byron could do to help linemate Jonathan Drouin.
“He’s a special talent, obviously,” Gallagher said. “We’re out there to complement him. Paulie’s one of the fastest players in the world, and he’s hoping to create a lot of havoc that way. For me, it’s a question of working hard and getting the puck on (Drouin’s) stick as much as we c -

Brownstein: Ruth Wilensky, matriarch of iconic Mile End deli, 'won't soon be forgotten'
She never sought the limelight. She was hardly the warm and fuzzy greeter who would shmooze with customers about their lives or those of their offspring. She was a worker bee, pure and simple. Ruth Wilensky was also the heart and soul of Wilensky’s Light Lunch in Mile End.
Ruth died Friday at the age of 98, and was a going concern until her last days. She may have officially retired from behind the Wilensky’s counter five years earlier, but she would still show up to keep her kids on -

Quebec job gains to rebound, Desjardins Group economist says
Despite February’s increase in the unemployment rate in Quebec, job growth should rebound in the coming months, according to Desjardins Group.
Quebec lost nearly 3,000 jobs last month, and the unemployment rate rose to 5.6 per cent, up 0.2 per cent.
But according to Desjardins Group senior economist Hélène Bégin, the jobless rate should return to around 5 per cent during the year.

Waldorf seniors' residence to celebrate 20 centenarians on Sunday
A Montreal seniors’ residence will soon have 20 100-year-olds among its residents, nine of whom will be celebrated on Sunday.
The nine will reach the venerable age of 100 this year at the Waldorf residence in Côte-Saint-Luc. That will bring to 20 the number of residents who are at least 100.

Montreal 'weed conference' explores opportunities in cannabis industry
Approximately 70 students and other curious types filed into an auditorium in Concordia’s John Molson School of Business on Saturday evening for something called The Weed Conference.
