Dimitri Nasrallah explores balance of power in latest novel, The Bleeds
How do you follow a hit?
All writers would like to have Dimitri Nasrallah’s problem. The Lebanon-born Montrealer’s second novel, 2007’s Niko, won multiple awards and an international readership with its story of an orphan’s long and perilous journey from the Middle East to Canada. It also drew the kind of emotional response that might have made a sequel very tempting. But as readers are about to find out, The Bleeds (Esplanade Books / Véhicule Press, 197 pages, $19 -
FCKD UP competitor suspends plan to return high-alcohol drink to Quebec
The American company that produces Four Loko, a sugary, high-alcohol beverage, has suspended its plan to return the product to the Quebec market — at least for the time being.
The announcement, made public Tuesday afternoon, follows the accidental death last week of a Laval teenager who apparently drank a similar beverage called FCKD UP. Kahlo to Nagano: Festival international du film sur l’art draws us in
Film is often referred to, en français, as le septième art. Opinion: Quebec's optometrists deserve to be paid fairly
When I was seven years old, my optometrist, who became my mentor, examined my eyes and gave me clear vision. On that day, and because of that, I decided I wanted to be an optometrist. That was 64 years ago.
Today, after 47 years of practice in the profession I love and live for, I am sad to have concluded I have to remove myself from Quebec’s public health system. I would never have thought that it would come to this.
When I graduated in 1971 from the École d’optométrie -

Suuns move toward the light on new album Felt
“It’s a stretch to say it’s accessible,” said Ben Shemie, lead singer for Montreal electro-rock band Suuns.

Park the kids at Parc for Kids for good old-fashion big screen experience

This worries Jean-François Lamarche. And not just because his métier is programming the Cinéma du Parc and Beaubien theatres.
Lamarche fears that too many families are missing out on the excitement of the big-screen cinema experience, -
