NEWARK, N.J. — A good leader should never ask people under them to do what he or she wouldn’t do themselves.
That’s part of what makes the Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher a very good leader.
Gallagher is only 5-foot-9 and 181 pounds, but he’s never afraid to go to the dirty areas of the ice to battle for the puck or score a goal. He gives 100-per-cent effort every shift and he won’t back down from anyone — not even 6-foot-6, 223-pound Tampa Bay Lightning de

Liveblog: Canadiens at New Jersey
The Canadiens are playing for pride and 2018-’19 season employment.
Unlike too many 2016-’17 games, it’s been fun to watch.
The team hasn’t lost a game in regulation since Feb. 17, when the Canadiens were smoked 6-3 in Las Vegas.
In the more than two weeks since, the Canadiens have beaten the Rangers and the Islanders – twice! – and lost in OT/Shootout to Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Boston.
This late-season manifestation of decent hockey has come despite a lon -

The wearing of yellow badges at an Outremont borough council meeting to protest the use of school buses by Hasidic Jews has sparked outrage due to their similarity to the stars Jews were forced to wear under the Nazi occupation.
Monday night’s incident is the most recent event in a long-simmering dispute between a few local residents and members of the growing Hasidic community.
“Should we just go away? Just vanish?” Alex Werzberger, a member of Outremont’s Hasidic commun -

Opinion: It's time for Quebec to catch up to Ontario on 'super nurses'
With a health-care system plagued by access problems, Quebecers should rejoice that the province is (slowly) training more specialized nurse practitioners and (grudgingly) giving them more to do. But Quebec still lags far behind Ontario, and in fact is losing ground.
Specialized nurse practitioners, also known as “super nurses”, are health-care professionals with some powers formerly restricted to medical doctors. Quebec Health Minister Gaétan Barrette announced last month&nbs -

Opinion: Why your backyard rink is turning into a wading pool
Montrealers who recently watched their outdoor rinks turn into wading pools may be asking, “Is this normal?” The answer: Yes.
As far as skating seasons go, this wasn’t the worst one in recent history. It was short, but over the last 75 winters, there have been 10 others when the best skating was finished by mid-February. It was a bit of a shock to learn the Beaver Lake rink on Mount Royal would no longer be maintained, but ponds that must bear the additional weight -

West Island Living: DIY home selling growing in popularity

Seven sweet choices for cabanes à sucre around Montreal
Maple syrup is big business in Quebec.
In fact, this province is the world’s largest producer of maple syrup. According to the Quebec Federation of Maple Syrup Producers, in 2017 our 13,700 maple syrup producers harvested 152 million pounds of maple syrup. That’s enough to fill 24 Olympic-size swimming pools.
But when we think about sugaring off, many of us picture a small cabin nestled among the trees, like the one that’s been featured on our cans of maple syrup since 1951.
