The main opposition party at Montreal City Hall is coming out in favour of the Royalmount mega mall in the Town of Mount Royal.
“We’re looking at a $2-billion private investment in Montreal, I think that bodes very well for the economic situation in Montreal, it shows that private interests are ready to invest in the long-term,” said Lionel Perez, the leader of Ensemble Montreal.
While the party — and previous administration that it led — has raised concerns ab -

A surge in enrolment has the Commission scolaire de Montréal vaunting the benefits of mobile elementary school classrooms.
The school board, which is the largest in the province, has received 3,500 new students in the past three years, the result of demographics, a spate of residential construction on the island and immigration, it says in a newsletter sent to parents on Friday.
Since September alone, the school board has welcomed 1,250 new students, it says.

Canadiens Notebook: The future is now for some young players
With the Canadiens all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention and injuries to key players Carey Price, Shea Weber and Andrew Shaw, the future is now for some of their young players.
We saw that Thursday night when Noah Juulsen made his NHL debut in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre after getting called up from the Laval Rocket and the 20-year-old defenceman — who was a first-round pick (26th overall) at the 2015 NHL Draft — looked impressive while -

Hôtel PUR in Quebec City bridges history.
It is a modern landmark in the St-Roch district that was founded in the early 1600s and just happens to be a hip neighbourhood of the 2000s.

Canadiens' Noah Juulsen earns rave reviews after NHL debut
Brendan Gallagher doesn’t remember all the details from his first NHL game with the Canadiens five years ago.
“Chucky (Alex Galchenyuk) always tells me I couldn’t stop smiling,” Gallagher said after the Canadiens beat the New York Rangers 3-1 Thursday night at the Bell Centre. “I don’t remember much about it.
