Hosting the soccer World Cup would be “fabulous” and add to Montreal’s international prestige, Mayor Valérie Plante said Tuesday.
But if the city is chosen to host part of the international tournament in 2026, there’s no question of going ahead unless the federal and provincial governments assume two-thirds of the cost, estimated at $150 million, Plante told reporters after an appearance at the HEC Montréal business school with Transport Minister Marc G

No compensation for commuters fed up with train delays, RTM says
Elie Skaf figures Montreal’s commuter train authority owes him at least a day’s pay for late trains.
Skaf, who boards the Deux-Montagnes line in Ste-Dorothée, said delayed trains have caused him to arrive late to work numerous times this year. He was recently given the option of making up for being late by working longer hours or having his pay docked. He chose the latter option.

Quebec's bill governing dangerous dogs is still alive, government says
QUEBEC — Montreal may be backing away from legislation governing dangerous dogs, but the province has not had its last word in the emotional debate.

Opinion: Squeals over Mount Royal traffic plan sound like entitlement
There are more than 1.2 million dead people on Mount Royal, taking up over 500 acres of prime Montreal real estate. They lie there in perpetuity by historical decree, for the benefit of a few. Established when much of the city was pasture, these monuments to ash and bone have endured even as the surrounding city transformed.
Though decidedly less sacrosanct, the road stretching over the mountain in half has proven no less enduring — until now. Constructed in the car-happy 1950s and named a -

Dan Delmar: The 'Plateau-ization' of Montreal is underway
During an uncharacteristically flat mayoralty campaign last year, one of the few effective criticisms hurled by former mayor Denis Coderre at his opponents was that a Projet Montréal government would bring about the “Plateau-ization” of the city.
Three months into the Valérie Plante administration, there seems to be some fear that the Plateau-ization has commenced.
Before 2017, Coderre was a masterful campaigner, connecting with his constituents at an almost visceral le -
