It took Jim Cuddy a lifetime to write Constellation.
The Blue Rodeo co-founder displayed the empathy and melancholy of an old soul even on his band’s earliest recordings, but says the songs of loss on his fourth solo album could only have come from the experiences and emotional scars that are endured later in life.
“Even when I was 50 and everybody thought, ‘Oh, you’re old’ — that’s not old,” Cuddy, 62, told the Montreal Gazette from Toronto the da -
A true Canadian story: Community rallies behind local hero in time of need
Thirty years ago, Dave Canadian helped turn the Kahnawake Mohawk territory into a powerhouse for national amateur wrestling.
“Coach Dave” mentored generations of Indigenous youth on the wrestling mats, pushing them to expect more for themselves and their community. So when Canadian was diagnosed with a rare, life-threatening lung disease — one that requires a double lung transplant — his friends and neighbours rallied to his aid.
Earlier this month, donations began pourin -

Opinion: English versions of Quebec laws all too often fall short
“Legal persons act through their organs …” so reads the English version of Article 311 of the Quebec Civil Code.
The Canadian Constitution requires that the laws and regulations of the federal Parliament, the National Assembly of Quebec and the legislatures of Manitoba and New Brunswick be made, adopted and published in both English and French. Each language version constitutes the law. One version can be used to interpret the other in cases of ambiguity. Consequently, it is i -

Arthur Kaptainis: OSM concert will leave us truly in the dark
Listening to music in the dark is not unprecedented, even in public. One venerable option is to close one’s eyes. Some listeners, depending on the repertoire, go further and fall asleep. Snoring between movements is discouraged by connoisseurs.
Rarely, the darkness is imposed. One of the world’s most famous pianists, Sviatoslav Richter (1915-1997), used to perform on a stage illuminated by a single desk lamp, pointed at the music on the piano stand, from which this Russian virtuoso d -
