A Quebec City man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to torching a car belonging to the president of the Islamic Culture Centre of Quebec.
Mathieu Bilodeau, 33, was arrested last September, one month after a vehicle belonging to Mohamed Labidi was set on fire in his driveway. Bilodeau also pleaded guilty in Quebec Court to setting three other criminal fires, said Jean-Pascal Boucher, spokesperson for the Crown prosecutor’s office. It may soon be faster to get onto a bus, as the Société de transport de Montréal will be replacing all of its decade-old fare-card readers starting next year.

Montreal doctor fined for 'gifts' to gynecologists who referred patients
A Montreal doctor has been fined $27,500 in a case involving gynecologists who referred patients to his ultrasound clinic.
Hing-Sang Hum pleaded guilty in October to giving “gifts” to three doctors who are staff members at the Jewish General Hospital — payments totalling almost $36,000 between 2011 and 2015.

Woman charged with first-degree murder of her mother
A 34-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder last week in connection with the first homicide of 2018 in Montreal.
Meng Ye was taken into custody by police on Jan. 28 after her 61-year-old mother was found outside her LaSalle home suffering from stab wounds.

Montreal doctor fined for 'gifts' to gynecologists who sent patients
A Montreal doctor has been fined $27,500 in a case involving gynecologists who referred patients to his ultrasound clinic.
Dr. Hing-Sang Hum pleaded guilty in October to giving “gifts” to three doctors who are staff members at the Jewish General Hospital — payments totalling almost $36,000 between 2011 and 2015.
The three doctors referred patients to Hum’s ultrasound clinic near the Côte-des-Neiges Rd. building where they practiced.

Tony Accurso acquitted in Mascouche corruption case
Quebec construction magnate Tony Accurso was acquitted Tuesday of a charge of breach of trust in connection with a corruption investigation into the city of Mascouche.
Accurso was accused of having offered trips on his yacht and money to the then mayor of Mascouche in exchange for infrastructure contracts.
The jury in the case acquitted him of the charge after just a day and a half of deliberations.

A tenant opened his apartment door to put out his garbage Monday night when he saw four Montreal police officers ordering a woman to come out of an apartment on the first floor.

Plenty of snow in the forecast for the Dorval Winter Festival
The Dorval Winter Festival begins Wednesday, Feb. 7, the same day the forecast calls for 20 cm of snow and a seasonable minus 7° Celsius. Festivities begin with the crowning of the festival’s king and queen, at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The 63rd Queen of this year’s St. Patrick’s Parade in Montreal is Kathleen Brown-Vandecruys of Dorval.
