Asked by host Catherine Perrin if he envisions a return to political life, Péladeau said: “God knows. You know leaving politics wasn’t my wish.”

Blade Runner 2049's Oscar nominations 'put spotlight on people in the shadows,' Villeneuve says
Denis Villeneuve didn’t nab an Academy Award nomination for best director. Nor did Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve’s magnificently dystopian take on the original 1982 Ridley Scott film, get an Oscar nod for best film. Also shut out were the film’s stars, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
But the Quebec director is thrilled with the five technical nominations garnered by his ambitious, nearly three-hour-long sci-fi epic, which was budgeted at around $155 million.

Dan Delmar: C'est fini for sovereignty movement
This could be the year the Quebec sovereignty movement is officially downgraded from mainstream to marginal. It would be unfair to declare the cause defunct today, but recent developments suggest it is in the midst of a spectacular collapse.

Opinion: Canada's shipbuilding strategy needs redraft that includes Davie
Canada has got some real problems.
In 2014, the country lost its last two refuelling supply ships, the HMCS Protecteur by fire, and HMCS Preserver as a result of corrosion. Consequently, for the last three years, the Royal Canadian Navy has been unable to effectively deploy a task force, and its ability to protect our shores has been limited.
This loss reduces mission options, curtails the radius of action for the navy’s warships and erodes skills.

Six O'Clock Solution: Crispy Brussels Sprouts
Brussels sprouts are rallying from their bad reputation, acquired years ago when they used to be cooked to “sad, over-boiled” mush, Toronto chef Lynn Crawford says. She includes three lively brussels sprouts recipes in her excellent new cookbook, Farm To Chef: Cooking Through The Seasons (Penguin, $40). A brief searing, she suggests, will bring out the natural sweetness and nutty flavour of the sprouts, and she advises they be combined with such foods as bacon, pancetta or sharply fl -
Montreal police link crime spree to ex-con whose sentence had recently ended
When most people in the city were doing their best to stay indoors to avoid the freezing weather that greeted the new year, the Montreal police began to notice an unusual trend.
