Heavy snow clogs track switches, forcing delays on Montreal commuter trains
Although the brutal cold spell that lasted almost two weeks finally broke on Monday, the snowfall that followed caused long delays for evening train commuters. The Réseau de transport métropolitain announced delays of up to 30 minutes for departures on the Vaudreuil-Hudson, Saint-Jérôme and Candiac lines, including two cancellations on the Candiac line because of track switches clogged with snow. Less severe delays were announced for the Deux-Montagnes, Mont- -

Allison Hanes: The promise and peril of technology
As the kids head back to class this week after the two-week Christmas break, some (like mine) might be outfitted with new tablets they found under the tree, while others might be slinging a long-coveted smartphone of their own.
Such electronic gadgets, whether bestowed as a holiday gift or acquired at another point, have become inevitable accoutrements of the generation growing up in the digital age. For parents glued to their own smartphones, it’s less a question of if we will give our ch -

Stu Cowan: Canadiens' chances of making playoffs slim to none
Math was never my best subject in school, but let’s give this a shot anyway.
The Canadiens enter their bye week with an 18-20-4 record for 40 points after winning their last two games — including a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks Sunday night at the Bell Centre. Last season, it took 95 points to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, so the Canadiens would need 55 points in their final 40 games to hit that mark.
I believe that works out to a record equivalent to 26-11-3. -
Canadiens' Jonathan Drouin experiencing growing pains at centre
In a perfect world, Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin says, Jonathan Drouin would be playing on the wing.
In the imperfect world that the Canadiens inhabit, Drouin is a centre and his inconsistent play at that position spotlights the team’s failure to draft, develop or trade for a No. 1 centre.
Bergevin conceded that failure Sunday when he delivered his midseason state-of-the-team address.
“Probably a better option would be on the wing but, in the situation we’re in -

Opinion: Bonjour-Hi motion stands to have legal repercussions
In the five weeks since the National Assembly’s unanimous Nov. 30 adoption of the anti-“Bonjour-Hi” motion, some observers have taken care to underline that, despite the vote, no law has been adopted, and so Bonjour-Hi is not in fact illegal. The only sanction for not adhering to the National Assembly’s prescription concerning public commercial etiquette will be, presumably, the Assembly’s disdain and whatever social impact there may be.
However, while it is tr -

Celine Cooper: Dare I hope 'Time's Up' for sexual harassment?
The #MeToo movement that has gained traction through the avalanche of allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, it seems to be gaining momentum.

Independent Budget Office would discourage 'number wars': city hall opposition
Montreal needs an Independent Budget Office to provide unbiased analyses of city spending and “depoliticize” municipal finances, city hall opposition leader Lionel Perez said Monday.
