Opinion: Marking winter solstice is a welcome pause in a busy season
A few years ago when my sister proposed we have a winter solstice celebration, I agreed to the idea right away.
I was covered in flour and my kitchen was littered with gingerbread men. Many of them looked like they’d just crawled through a mineshaft. I wanted to get off the phone quickly so I didn’t burn another batch of the cookies. I wasn’t really listening to my sister.
After I hung up, I began to worry that I’d just casually agreed to dance naked under the stars, -

Watch Philippe Couillard try to host a casual cabinet meeting
’Twas the last cabinet meeting, when in l’édifice Honoré-Mercier
No creature was stirring, save Couillard’s cameraman for the day;
The premier had taken to Facebook pre-meeting to share,
His trip from his office to the conference room downstairs;
To the room of ministers nestled snug that he led;
Where visions of laws danced in their heads;
And the Premier with no tie, camera in tow,
Was preparing to give 2017 just one last go,

Imagine this: A room overflowing with parents whose children have leukemia. The hospital director announces pediatric cancers will no longer be treated in Quebec hospitals. It’s just too expensive. Kevin Tierney: Three Oscar hopefuls inhabit an ambiguous universe
Does everybody know that kids do not sit on Santa’s lap anymore because it’s considered inappropriate? Children these days are “encouraged” to sit beside shopping-mall Santas, which strikes me as one of the saddest things I have heard in a long time.
It is, of course, part of our very own big chill — the one that has nothing to do with winter and everything to do with a collective moral breakdown that says we are not safe, potential abuse is everywhere and we have t -

Despite some progress, Quebec falls short of its family doctor access target
Even if one million more Quebecers now have access to a family doctor than in 2014, that still won’t meet the end-of-year target of 85 per cent set by the government.
