Montrealer Marilynn Vanderstaay offers dinner for those lonely on Christmas Day
You’re invited to Marilynn Vanderstaay’s Extended Family Christmas Day Celebration, to take place on Dec. 25. All of you. Your friends are also welcome – or anyone you’d like to bring along, for that matter.

Editorial: Lamentable TVA-mosque episode serves as a cautionary tale
It was not quite at year ago that Quebecers were shocked and deeply saddened by a gunman’s attack on Quebec City mosque. Six people were killed and several more wounded in the Jan. 29 assault. As we all struggled to come to terms with how such a thing could happen here, as vigils were held and solidarity expressed, much remorse was heard over the fear-mongering and prejudicial discourse about Muslims that had become all too common.
And, it seems, remains so.
The unfounded accusations invol -
What the Puck: Canadiens' only hope for playoffs is Carey Price at his best
You want balanced writing? You’ll get balanced writing. In the spirit of the holiday season, here’s a column that will lay off the hating of general manager Marc Bergevin for a day — sort of — and look at some pluses and minuses of this strange 2017-18 edition of the Montreal Canadiens.
Since we’re all feeling warm and fuzzy gathered around the Christmas tree, roasting chestnuts and chatting about the Habs, let’s start with the positives. Here is the bigg -
Editorial: School-tax reform offers welcome support for English education
Buried under the wave of justifiable outrage from English-speaking Quebecers over the Bonjour-Hi affair is something the Quebec Liberals deserve credit for, something that offers welcome support to English-language public eduction in this province.
Last week, Education Minister Sébastien Proulx introduced Bill 166, on school-tax reform. Among other things, its greater harmonization of school tax rates off the island of Montreal stands to remedy what has long been a sore point for Eng -
Crystal puts Cirque du Soleil on ice
Ice ice baby.
In discussions a few weeks back with the cast and crew of Crystal at the Sears Centre in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, every single person connected with the new Cirque du Soleil show very quickly got to the topic of ice. But there’s no escaping the main d -

Part of the reason the Crown did not object was because Sorella was granted bail in 2010, while she awaited her first trial. She was found guilty on June -
TVA apologizes for mosque story, says it will investigate 'journalistic process'

Don Macpherson: Why 'Bonjour-Hi' matters to the Quebec Liberals
Throw Sun Tzu out the window; in politics, contrary to what the ancient Chinese military strategist says in the classic The Art of War, the battle is no longer won before it is fought. Elections now are decided in the official campaign itself.
For Quebec party leaders, that campaign lasts 33 physically and mentally gruelling days. That’s a long time for them to have to think on their feet under pressure in media scrums, interviews and debates.
But it also doesn’t leave them much time -

We're halfway done clearing the snow, Montreal authorities boast
Less than 48 hours after about 20 centimetres of snow fell on the city on Tuesday, Montreal’s snow removal authorities say 50 per cent of that snow has been removed from streets and sidewalks.
