Liveblog: Calgary at Canadiens
The Canadiens should be the fresher team when Calgary visits the Bell Centre Thursday night.
The Flames played in Toronto Wednesday night, and the game went to a Shootout before the Leafs eked out a 2-1 win.
Through 65 minutes, Calgary had 48 shots on Frederik Andersen. Maybe their arms will be too tired to unduly trouble Carey Price.
In a close race for Wild Card spots in the Western Conference, Calgary is tied with Anaheim and San Jose at 30 points. Minnesota and Chicago have 29.

Good news for P.K. Subban: Mile End Deli opening in Nashville
Mile End Deli, Montrealer Noah Bernamoff’s New York City tribute to his hometown, is coming to Nashville.
Eater Nashville reports that the restaurant is set to open in downtown Nashville early next year, bringing smoked meat and maybe even Montreal-style bagels to the city.
Following the trades of P.K. Subban and Alexei Emelin to Nashville, the latter by way of Las Vegas, this latest culinary move may be the tipping point to considering Nashville the Montreal of the south.

Theatre hit with $682 ticket after actor smokes a cigarette onstage
The Théâtre du Trident in Quebec City learned the hard way the province’s health department won’t suspend its disbelief when it comes to smoking.
Le Devoir reported Thursday that the theatre was slapped with a $682 ticket after one of its actors smoked a cigarette onstage as part of a performance of the play Le Cas Joé Ferguson.
The cigarette was written into the script by playwright Isabelle Hubert to illustrate the anxiety felt by one of the characters.

Quebec artist who tried to sell his own painting as a Riopelle is acquitted
An accomplished Montreal artist who was charged with forging the name of one of Quebec’s best known painters onto one of his own paintings was acquitted Thursday after the Crown conceded it was not in the public’s interest to pursue the case.
While sporting a pair of black shoes with long metal tips on them, the artist, Michel Vermeulen, 56, pumped both his fists outward as prosecutor Céline Bilodeau informed Superior Court Justice Johanne St-Gelais of the Crown’s -
'I killed her one time, but I kill myself every day,' man tells judge
One word can mean so much, especially if it is used in the wrong way while a convicted killer is asking a judge for leniency.
Defence lawyer Clemente Monterosso asked Superior Court Justice Pierre Labrie to consider this while arguing his client, Harinder Singh Cheema, chose the wrong word while he asked the court to set his parole eligibility at 10 years, the minimum required for a person convicted of second-degree murder in Canada.

Former Canada Revenue Agency auditor to be sentenced for accepting bribe
A former Canada Revenue Agency auditor is expected to learn on Friday whether he will have to serve time in jail for being part of a conspiracy to extort a bribe from the manager and owners of a popular Plateau restaurant.
In June, Elias Kawkab, a 55-year-old resident of the St-Laurent borough, pleaded guilty to committing a fraud on the government and breach of trust. He admitted to being part of what appeared to be a carefully planned plot to extort $100,000 from Kosta Stathopoulos, the -

Opinion: Before Facebook, Christmas cards kept us connected
December used to feel a bit like that scene in the first Harry Potter film. Not so many years ago, pretty white envelopes would flutter through my mail slot every day, increasing in volume as the 25th drew near. I’d line up all the shiny Christmas cards I received on a table in my living room. They made my house feel full of friends.
If I had a mantel, that’s where the Christmas cards would have been displayed. That’s where they were placed in my parents’ house when I was -

Opinion: Airline security, the kirpan and the CAQ
It was an odd spectacle: A few weeks ago, Quebec politicians urgently passed a motion calling on the federal government to review Transport Canada’s decision to allow blades measuring six centimetres or less onto domestic and international flights except those to the United States.
While the Coalition Avenir Québec, which introduced the motion, claimed it was concerned about airline security, in reality it seemed like yet another case of Quebec politicians playing divisive identity -
Bonjour-Hi: Anglophones decry Minister Weil's 'condescending' comments
Some English speakers were reacting with anger Thursday after the minister who represents them in government said they “have trouble following” the Bonjour-Hi debate.

Game Day: Canadiens cancel morning skate again before facing Flames
Morning skates on game days look like they are becoming a thing of the past for the Canadiens.
Coach Claude Julien cancelled Thursday’s scheduled morning skate in Brossard before a game against the Calgary Flames Thursday night at the Bell Centre (7:30 p.m., TSN2, RDS, TSN Radio 690). The Canadiens haven’t had a morning skate before four of their last five games and captain Max Pacioretty is happy about that.

Update: Montrealers are in shock over top cop shakeup, Lionel Perez says

Updated: 11 km traffic jam cleared after 5-car pileup on Highway 40 W

Bonjour-Hi: English is not a foreign language in Quebec, Couillard says
