It can’t be easy looking around, knowing it has been almost a decade since you were drafted and realizing you’re the oldest guy in the minor-league team’s dressing room at age 28.
Nonetheless, winger Chris Terry has embraced his role with the American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket.
“I don’t feel old, but I think I’m looked at as an older guy on the team,” he said following a recent practice at Place Bell. “I’m getting a littler older, bu

Update: Pichet suspended, Sûreté head put in charge of Montreal police
Quebec’s Public Security minister has suspended Montreal’s chief of police Philippe Pichet for at least a year and has named an interim administrator to bring order to the SPVM’s troubled ranks.
Sûreté du Québec director general Martin Prud’homme has been tasked with running the force effective immediately until Dec. 31, 2018, when he will be expected to make a recommendation as to whether Pichet should be reinstated or fired.

Analyze This: Daniel Carr adds punch to Canadiens' fourth line
The Canadiens aren’t known as an offensive superpower in the NHL. Most seasons, they are somewhere near the middle of the pack in goals scored.
This season has been much of the same, although they’ve had a recent uptick in goals scored, most notably during the home-and-home series against the Red Wings in which they scored 16 goals — almost 20 per cent of their 2017-18 output.
Until the Red Wings series, the Canadiens had only three sources of offensive production: the to -

Canadiens Notebook: Shea Weber and Jonathan Drouin absent from practice
The Canadiens practised Wednesday morning in Brossard but No. 1 defenceman Shea Weber and No. 1 centre Jonathan Drouin both weren’t there.
Weber, who scored two goals and logged 22:32 of ice time in Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues at the Bell Centre, took a therapy day on Wednesday, while Drouin is now battling a virus after missing three games with a lower-body injury.

Police have my confidence, Plante says in shadow of internal report
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said on Wednesday she will join Quebec Public Security Minister Martin Coiteux later in the day to address a reportedly devastating internal report on the management of the city’s police department, a document that has already led to speculation that Philippe Pichet’s days as chief of police are numbered.
Pichet’s future was called into doubt Tuesday night after details of the report, ordered last March by Coiteux, were obtained by -
Opinion: Canada's flawed shipbuilding strategy needs to be righted
If you thought things couldn’t get worse than the federal government’s broken and wildly over-budget Phoenix pay system, you haven’t been paying enough attention to the fiasco-in-waiting known as the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
Nor, it seems, have the cabinet ministers supposed to be overseeing the program — leaving Canada’s navy ill-equipped for at least another decade, hundreds of Quebec workers about to lose their jobs and Canadian taxpayers on the hook for t -
Gridlock, gridlock, gridlock: No Turcot relief till middle — or end — of 2019
Most Montreal drivers will likely be affected by the latest phase of construction in the Turcot Interchange project, especially on weekends.
Transport Quebec held its third technical briefing for reporters on Wednesday, ahead of a planned closure of the westbound Ville-Marie expressway, scheduled to start Monday.
And on Wednesday, KPH-Turcot’s Sébastien Marcoux dropped another bombshell — the work to rebuild the Ville-Marie could last nearly two years, with work expected -

Six O’Clock Solution: Celery Salad
This recipe is a find, considering we have celery in our stores year-round, and it is easy to make. It comes from a new cookbook called Dutch Feast, by Emily Wight (Arsenal, $32.95), a Vancouver recipe developer who blogs at wellfedflatbroke.com and married into a Dutch family. She gives the reader an easy-reading rundown on a cuisine that, in her opinion, does not get enough attention. Historical touches are plentiful throughout its well-designed pages and 120 recipes. Comic Morgan O'Shea embraces his growing pains as he becomes Adultish
The setting was the Comedyworks, nearly four years ago. A dozen comics were auditioning for the 2014 Just for Laughs festival. The fest judges and the crowd at the packed venue seemed to concur that at least one of the comics was destined for a long, lucrative career in the biz: Morgan O’Shea.
A Calgary native, O’Shea had moved to Montreal six years earlier to pursue comedy. He showed up at open-mic nights and eventually landed opening and hosting gigs.
He won audiences over with his -

Kevin Tierney: French Invasion brings Zeitoun and Zenou to Montreal
There has been much talk of late of the French Invasion, the seeming increase in the number of French citizens who for one reason or another have moved to Montreal.
The number of French students is well established. A couple of years ago I was ordered to go to Ikea. (What can I say? I don’t like meatballs.) Walking around, it felt like herds of people were speaking French with that accent. A peripheral glance confirmed that many of the herd were mothers buying furniture for their chi -

Opinion: Myth of liberation therapy finally put to rest
Well, it’s finally over. It took eight years, but I think we might actually be done. Liberation therapy will hopefully fade into obscurity as one of the many medical myths that seem absurd when you look at them in retrospect.
If you have forgotten the story, everyone was talking about liberation therapy in November 2009 when a segment aired on CTV’s W5 program. The claim was that narrowed veins in the neck caused multiple sclerosis. Opening up these narrowed veins would therefore tre -

Dan Delmar: French enjoys a renaissance — in English Canada
The nationalist vaudeville performed over the past few weeks by much of Quebec’s political class has been profoundly embarrassing for all Quebecers, but fear not, francophiles. There are signs French is becoming cool again, no thanks to this province’s language hobbyists.
