It took more than two decades, but justice finally caught up with Dieuseul Jean.
Dieuseul Jean
A jury in its third day of deliberation at the Montreal courthouse emerged with a verdict on Thursday and, through its foreperson, announced they came to a unanimous decision and found the 56-year-old man guilty of second-degree murder in the Dec. 25, 1995 death of 42-year-old Juthlande Pierre.
Pierre and Jean were a couple back in 1995, but were having problems during the holiday season. T

Allison Hanes: 'Bonjour-Hi' is just good customer service
The bustling boutiques of Montreal’s Ste-Catherine St. seemed a world away from the National Assembly Thursday, where how retail employees greet customers was the hot-button topic.
While holiday shoppers went about their merry business, the government and the Opposition raged about the ubiquitous “Bonjour-Hi” being an “irritant” that undermines the predominance of French in Quebec and represents a dangerous slide into bilingualism.
Yet an unscientific survey of stor -

Projet Montréal is being accused of political flip-flopping after approving more than $15 million in road-repair contracts that fall under a paving program the party long criticized as a waste of money and “electoral paving” when it was in the opposition.

'Construction sites charter' would protect citizens, Montreal opposition says
With more than 700 construction projects planned for Montreal in 2018, the official opposition at city hall is calling on the city to create a “construction sites charter” that would clearly outline the rights of citizens and small businesses affected.
For each site, a public listing would be posted showing how long the work is expected to last; measures that should be in place to ensure pedestrian and cyclist safety and universal accessibility; measures to reduce irritants lik -

Brownstein: Cannes Lions winners are an easy sell
As enduring Christmas traditions go in this city, there’s little doubt that one of the most popular would seem to go against the religious sanctity of the season: the latest batch of award-winning commercials from the annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
But then again, Montrealers always tend to march to the beat of their own little drummer person. How else to explain the fact we now also celebrate having the ugliest, albeit noble, Christmas tree trying to spread its -

Three sheets inviting young people to sign the suicide pact, which was to take place on Jan. 30, began to circulate and collected 62 signatures.

Arthur Kaptainis: Orchestre Métropolitain in cosmopolitan form
DORTMUND, Germany — This was by no means the debut of Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the Dortmund Konzerthaus. The Parti Québécois is to attempt to table a motion in the National Assembly Thursday declaring the phrase “bonjour-hi” an “irritant.”
