Editorial: Cancellation of Max Stern exhibition an affront to memory
The sudden cancellation by the city museum in Düsseldorf of a planned exhibition on Max Stern’s life and work is disturbing and disappointing.
That the news comes only days after annual commemorations of Kristallnacht is all the more jarring; it’s one more reminder that restitution for the crimes of the Nazi era, despite all that has been done, remains unfinished business.
Before the Second World War, Stern was an art dealer in Düsseldorf. As a result of the Nazi -
Top university coach Glen Constantin could be on Alouettes' radar
QUEBEC — The man who could potentially become the Alouettes’ next field general lives just down Highway 20 in Quebec City. And Glen Constantin, the most successful football coach in Canadian university sports history, said he’ll listen when the expected call comes in.
But the conversation might be short. “You’d be crazy not to listen. You don’t know what you’re passing up,” the 52-year-old head coach at Université Laval said during a recent -
What the Puck: Never a dull moment for Montreal Canadiens fans
When the muck hit the ventilation system Tuesday, a number of folks sent me messages on social-media suggesting it must feel like Christmas morning for me. And it kind of did.
The Montreal Canadiens are the gift that keeps on giving for someone like me who writes a column that feeds on fear, loathing and high drama in the Habs Nation. It quite simply never ends and that’s a good thing for some of us.
The downside in recent years is most of that drama has been sparked by developments that a -

Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049: masterpiece or flop?
For a man who just directed a $155-million flop, Denis Villeneuve was remarkably calm.
On the phone from Los Angeles last week, the Quebec director was philosophical about the highs and lows of his latest film, Blade Runner 2049.
Villeneuve has been hailed as an artistic genius in response to his nearly three-hour epic, which expands on the iconic vision of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original, a dystopian reverie starring Harrison Ford as a state-sanctioned hunter of android “replicants.&rd -
