Stu Cowan: Canadiens could use confidence boost from Carey Price
The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes confidence as “a feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances” and “faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way.”
It could also include: “the ability to put a hockey puck in the net.”
At least that’s what Canadiens coach Claude Julien believes.

If you’re happy with the way things are going in Montreal, stick with Denis Coderre.
That’s the message the incumbent mayor kept returning to during a meeting with the Montreal Gazette editorial board Wednesday. And it’s the message he wants to leave with Montrealers before they head to the ballot box on Sunday to decide between himself and Projet Montréal Leader Valérie Plante.

Opinion: Yes, you can be fat and fit, but that's not the whole story
A question that often comes up is whether you can be both fat and fit. The short answer to that question is yes. You can be both fat and fit in the same way that you can be both blond and left handed. Fatness and fitness denote two separate things.
Being fat, or, more scientifically, being obese, refers to having excess visceral fat coating your internal organs. It is widely felt that visceral fat is more dangerous than the subcutaneous fat that is stored in a layer under your skin.

Montreal artist John Little's street scenes are steeped in nostalgia
John Little has always kept a low public profile — for decades he has been one of the more reluctant stars of Montreal’s art community.
Throughout his 65-year career, the modest, self-effacing painter has refused to grant interviews or allow reproductions of his work to be published. Instead, he has been rendering Montreal’s urban landscape in a signature style that blends nostalgic whimsy with gritty realism.
“He prefers to let his canvases speak for themselves,” s -

The budget, taxes and debt after 4 years of Coderre
Five billion dollars. That’s the approximate size of Montreal’s city budget and its net debt.
When it comes to money, the Denis Coderre administration promised to control city expenses, invest in infrastructure and limit property tax increases to the rate of inflation.
“I think we did a very good job,” said Pierre Desrochers, the chair of city council’s executive committee and the architect of budgetary policy under Coderre.

Update: Coderre defends Formula E, says Montreal will learn from experience
The elusive number is in: 20,000.
That’s the number of tickets given for free to Montreal’s Formula E race in July.
That represents 44 per cent of the 45,000 tickets used that weekend, Montreal c’est electrique (MCE), the non-profit organization that oversaw the race, said in a statement Wednesday.
However, more than 20,000 people received free tickets, because of the 25,000 sold, some were purchased by event “partners and sponsors,” who then gave them away.
