The Couillard government says it has “settled its debt” with general practitioners by increasing their renumeration by 14.7 per cent by 2023.
The increase will cost $340 million and there will be additional, non-recurring payments to doctors of at least $635 million.
The government chose to respect past agreements, which provided for increases that were delayed and spread out over time.

Update: Bombardier fights back after U.S. raises CSeries duty to 300%

Editorial: The end of Energy East
Few in Quebec are mourning TransCanada Corp.’s decision to abandon Energy East. It seemed clear the $15.7 billion pipeline project had little social acceptability in this province; an array of politicians — not least Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre — environmentalists and Indigenous people were vehemently opposed. While some in the local business community had welcomed the expected economic benefits (which, for Quebec, would have been modest and mostly temporary), the damage cause -

Don Macpherson: For the Quebec Liberals, not just another byelection
Sure, it was just one byelection, in a single one of Quebec’s 125 provincial ridings. The next general election isn’t due for another year, an eternity in politics. And byelections are unreliable predictors of general elections.
No single riding’s electorate is typical of that of the province as a whole. This byelection was held in the Quebec City region, an electorally unstable, especially conservative political microclimate.
In a byelection, the choice of a government is not -
